Uggla has always been able to hit. You also have to love his hard nosed "I will kick your butt" attitude. Comes from a great family, and is very respectful.

He has quite possably the most beautiful set of hands I have seen on a highschool baseball field, and he has only gotten better.

if he were on the cubs, he'd have been benched in favor of womack/neifi in mid-april when he was hitting .200.

With Baker managing, I don't think he would have gotten to play half a month. I think he would have gotten the same chance that Theriot got which really amounted to none!

My point wasn't to single out Uggla. He's having a good year, and I think Girardi is doing quite well with as little as he has to work with. My point is, you can look at the list of MLB players with 12-15 homers, and there are a lot of no-names, but none play for the Cubs. The Cubs lack of power this year is amazing to me. It's like there's no happy medium. The last couple of years it's live or die by the home run. We hit a couple of homers, we win; if we don't we lose. At least the potential was there. This year we hit 9 singles, score 3, and lose 5-3. A lot of games, we haven't had a fly ball make the warning track. I guess I'm just venting because I really enjoy watching the Cubs, but they're terrble and it doesn't seem like any changes (except for Lee and Prior coming back) are on the horizon.

In the Cubs/Cards Sunday night game from Wrigley this past April, Joe Morgan said that the Cubs "relied too heavily on the homer last season". The Cubs knew that Joe felt this way last season and decided to move in a completely opposite direction.

I saw a AA game last week in which no fewer than 6 players had more RBI than any Cub.

And how many weeks after the start of the MLB season does the AA season begin?

Which high school did he play for?

Columbia Central in Columbia, Tennessee

Played for Mark Pickle who is also a rather hard nosed individual.

Ironicly the first time I ever saw Uggla play was as a pitcher. Mid 80 FB and a nice 12-6. Every time after that was him playing SS. But his arm is w/o a doubt a 2b arm.

In past years, the Cubs lacked OBP. They needed to get guys on base more consistently to score runs.

Now they lack power and OBP, a far more lethal combination (for the Cubs).

Theriot has clearly earned a shot at in the majors. Teams routinely promote guys with a sub .700 OPS at Triple A.

Theriot hasn;t had a chance because he's done nothing to deserve one.
