With the success of Marmol, Marshall, and with prior coming back, with Miller in the wings, with Z and Maddox in the rotation and Young pitchers galore in the minors, Hill makes great trade bait. Add Murton to a trade and pick up a significant outfielder, power form the left side. Hill looks great now, time to pull off a trade

given the history of prior & miller, i hope the cubs wait and see how they do before trading away any prime pitching. i would rather see them deal vets like walker, maddux, & williamson than any young pitching. i dont see murton being traded anytime soon either.

I wouldn't call Hill a prime pitcher. He's 27 already. He's not learning or gaining anything in Iowa. They need to keep him on the roster until he gets over his nerves and gets his command back, or they need to trade him.

I see Murton being trade for the sole reason he doesn't have the SLG and HR power a LF should have. And if you have people like Pie and Jones in CF and RF next year. You are gonna have to unload SOMEONE for some power.

I like Murton and Cedeno. But of the 2 I see Murton going because in Cedeno's case he gives you above average #'s for his position. Murton much much below average. If Murton in addition to some other peices could get us someone real good in LF, I would do it. Even though I really like the kid.

the cubs think (as do i) that murton will develop power. he is a big strong guy and has hit a few bombs already in the majors. i think he can easily be a 25 hr guy in lf. with a healthy lee, team power is not that big issue imo. jones is on a pace to hit 30+ hr's & aram will most likely start to pound the ball when lee gets back in the lineup. i hope they keep both murton & cedeno myself to go along with the up and coming pie & ep.

hill turned 26 in march. if you look at his stats in the minors the last 2 years i dont see how you cant put him in the "prime pitcher" catagory. age aside, he has been the most dominate lefty in the minors the last 2 seasons. he also has had great command in the minors this year as opposed to when he has pitched in the bigs (for whatever reason).

Exactly.

A couple of things here.

1. We aren't in the race. Staying in the race shouldn't be a concern.

2. Hill needs to be pitching in Chicago. If he can't cut it, we need to see that over a season.

3. If he can't cut it as a starter, the Cubs will have to decide whether he can be a loogy or whether he's toast. Either way, he needs to be here pitching.

Maybe package Hill, one A and one B prospect for Zito? With Oakland's track record they could turn Hill around into a great pitcher.

Maybe Hill, Brownlie, and Sing?

1) Zito's a FA after this season. We're not contending so there's no reason to trade a bunch of guys for him now.

2) Where's the A and B in your list, cuz I don't know that Brownlie or Sing fit in either category?

And the A's are in contention. They won't unload Zito unless they think they make themselves better this year too.

Obviously this kind of trade would hinge upon an extension for at least another year.

No rentals for this horrible team.

zito's stuff is very similar to hill's imo. if hill can find his control in the major's i dont see why he could not have similar success.

Thank you. It gets tiresome to see threads lambasting Hill for having two pitches only to see posts in the same thread clamoring to get Zito. If he has anything more than his curve and a mediocre fastball I have yet to see it. Although he has displayed much better command than Hill in the bigs (then again who hasn't).

I don't think that's quite true. He's a better than average lefty in the minors who's now (my bad on the age) 26 and still can't stick. Not prime.

I'd be real curious to find out who's been better than Hill these last two years. He's not just succeeding in the minor leagues, he's absolutely shredding them, especially this year.

say what you want about hill and his big league prospects, but it's crazy to say he's merely better than average in AAA.

2005: 65 ip, 53 h, 14 bb, 92 k's

2006: 50.2 ip, 35 h, 11 bb, 70 k's

162 k's in 115 2/3 innings and a whip under 1 is dominant, i don't care how old you are. and he's doing it in what is likely the toughest pitcher's league in the minors.
