Put Murton at the top of the order and stick Walker 2nd. Let Jones, Barrett and Ramirez make up the 3/4/5 spots.

Murton

Walker

Ramirez

Jones

Barrett

Nevin

Cedeno

Pierre

I like that lineup. It makes sense. Which is why it will never happen with Dusty managing.

True. More annoying fun facts......

Cubs lead off hitters have drawn a total of 13 walks. Cubs #2 hitters have drawn a total of 8 walks.

That's a total of 21 walks from the guys who are supposed to set up the most productive run producers on the team. No, not for June and not for May. For the entire season.

How easily accessible is this information? I had no trouble. How important is this information? I think it's extremely significant. Why doesn't the management team of the Chicago Cubs know or care about this stuff? I have no idea.

The one stat I can't seem to find is how many GIDP's the #2 spot in the order has hit into. I'd be real interested to know this. Where's Fred when you need him?

At his age, my guess is napping.

I thought he drove trucks for a living? He's not napping, that's dangerous.

He's probably drinking.

If he's a driver, then you're right -- that would be much safer.

Dude, Dusty has stats the rest of us haven't even heard of.

Kind of like the panties Frank thought the waitress at the Olive Garden may or may not have been wearing?

But I sort of think well maybe they're silk panties, maybe it's a thong. Maybe it's something really cool that I don't even know about. You know, and uh, and I started feeling... what? what I thought we were in the trust tree in the nest, were we not?

The team is back below .400 right now.

I said a couple days ago that if there was any hope, they had to win now. Playing .500 until the cavalry shows up won't be enough. The Cubs would now have to play .700 ball to get back to .500 overall by the All Star Break. They've have to play .617 ball just to get to 52-53 by the trading deadline.

If they play .600 ball until the end of the season, they'd finish at 85-77, probably with no hope for the playoffs. They have to play .644 ball to get 90 wins. That's a pace for 104 wins, which this team was never close to being.

It isn't technically over. But time is running out quickly, and a couple of series wins now and again isn't going to get this team where it needs to go.

as has been the case since 2003, the team will go as far as prior/wood carry them. unfortunately, prior/wood's inability to pitch gives this team little chance.

basically, the cubs are getting zero out of a $20 million investment. (you have to count rusch and miller into the equation, as they were brought in as backup options).

It's far beyond that now, as today's game very explicitly proves. Who cares if they pitch like their old selves? Look what this team does when the pitching keeps the opponents to one freakin' run! Look how many times they've been shut out!

can't win w/ the worse starting pitching in the NL. Lee will give the offense a major shot in the arm when he returns. unfortunately, doesn't look like any starting pitching help is on the way.

OK, Marshall held the opposing team to a single run for 7 full innings. One. Just the one. What more can you ask of a starting pitcher besides allowing them to score none? Except even that's not enough, since this team can't even manage a run themselves. And this is happening again and again this season. So what if Prior and Wood pitch like Prior and Wood? This cesspool of an offense will implode behind them and they'll probably get 1 win out of every 4 or so they SHOULD get. At best, a healthy Wood and Prior keep this team from losing 100 games. Whoopedee-doo. Unless they also come back clubbing the ball like He-Man, pitchin' don't score runs. And Lee is just one guy. He's not going to do what he did last year. Ideally, he'll hit around .310, if he's healthy. That's helpful, and they'll probably win a few extra games, but nothing significant that's even close to resembling a run. Lee can't put guys on base ahead of him, and the inevitable tandem of Womack and Pierre is gonna suck just as bad with Lee behind them as it does now.

13 under .500, .390 W%

It just keeps getting harder and harder.

Season is over. I don't see this team playing even close to .600.

Heck, at this point I'd be happy to see them play .500 the rest of the way. That would at least show some improvement.

Problem is, I just do think that's going to happen.

61-101 is looking more like a realistic outcome...., maybe even worse than that.

#1 overall selection in next year's draft looks to be a possibility these days.

I wouldn't be happy with that. It would ease some of the pressure on management to change. They could say Dusty "righted the ship" without actually getting the ship righted. They would feel justified in continuing on the path they have mistakenly been taking for several years. Problems would continue. Plus, a 75-87 record probably leaves them no better than around 10th on the draft list.

.500 from here on out accomplishes nothing. .500 is not good baseball. .500 would not mean the playoffs. .500 would not inspire the change that is needed.

If they are going to lose, they might as well lose a lot.

IMO, the Cubs blew their chance in getting to the WS in 2003. Hendry has done such a terrible job with the roster since then that I have no faith in him ever getting us back to the playoffs. We have regressed every year since 2004, which I find ridiculous. Hendry got lucky in 2003, and his mismanagement has cost us a lot of opportunities. Sadly, I'm frustated because I don't see how the Cubs can turn it around any time soon. We really need to get rid of Hendry and get a competent GM in here. The entire coaching staff should have been fired after 2004 too.

It's good to see the Cubs win some games. Yesterdays attempt at a sweep in ST. Louis was a good see-saw affiar with the Cubs coming up short. But they battled back after being down. This is a good sign. Yesterdays loss was on the pitching staff.

So the Cubs take 2/3 from the Reds and the Cards.

***If the Cubs win each series in June (Taking 3 out of 4 vs. the Reds and the Brewers) The Cubs would be back at .500 by June 28th. ***

IF is a huge word and probably spoken to often in Diehard Cub fans circles but the season is what it is.

Here's to watching some much better baseball.

Also, I get the feeling Dusty leaned on his coaching staff and the players are responding. IMO

The Cubs are just one game off the theroretical pace suggested above. So June 29th is a real possibility.

14 games under, .394 W%. Need to go 64-32 to reach 90 wins, that's .666 W%.

Bleak.

I noticed Scott G. F. no longer has "founder of the Extend Dusty bandwagon" in his sig. Baby steps, man.
