I am such a sucker. I find out about Wood's win on ESPN's Bottom Line ticker yesterday afternoon, and I make plans to tune in today.

Cubs win 5-3. Adam Dunn goes yard thrice, but all are solo shots. Fast Freddie Bynum is my pick to click.

but who do the guys in the truck pick?

On this note, what do the Sox announcers' "Picks to click" mean? Get a hit or hit a homer? It's a stupid game if they NEVER explain the rules.

I think they're right as long as their guy is either a) not arrested or b) not killed.

Rooting against the Cubs in MAY? Wow.

I'm not rooting against the Cubs. I'm rooting against Baker/Clines/Sarge/Rothschild/Hendry/McPahil/The Tribune/Ronnie Woo Woo/That guy that dresses lik the ivy/etc., etc., etc..

Cubs score twice but on twelve hits, but win 2-1. Dempster closes out the 9th on 3 K's and 9 pitches. Maddux pitches 8 strong innings.

Murton and Womack drive in the runs.

Lose plz.

Win means the illustrious announcement of multi year extensions for the whole coaching staff.

Honest question, do any of you think they would actually fire any of them if they lose? I think there will be extensions no matter win or lose.

The Cubs are currently on pace for a record of 62-100. There is no way you give an extention to a manager after a year like that. I think most people on this board would agree that Dusty isn't going to be fired at any point this year. Most Dusty haters just don't want an extention. Obviously, as long as no extention is offered to Dusty, there is still a chance he won't coach the team next year. The rumor is that Hendry is just looking for the right time (i.e. a winning streak) to give Dusty an extention. If the Cubs don't go on a winning streak then it will be hard for Hendry to offer the extention.

Never say never with the Cubs  I understand what you are saying though, appreciate the info soccer10k.

Actually, the big rumor is that Hendry has already given extensions to the coaching staff, but has been waiting for a winning streak to announce it.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was true as well.

Entire coaching staff or just Dusty? Either way it's a complete joke if true.

Rooting against the Cubs in MAY? Wow.

The odds of them making the playoffs are less than 1 in 400 and have been dropping, not rising. I love the Cubs, and that's why I'm rooting against them right now. They will be destined for medicority (or worse) as long as the current management is in place.

I really dont understand a Cub fan rooting aginst the cubs. I guess im the only one on nsbb that dosent root against them, not to say their isnt people on here who dont root against them but it seems like more and more people are rooting for this team to finish dead last. By the way I dont think Hendry is going to fire Baker during the season. In my opinion I think Dusty should get an extension. He brought the SF Giants to the 02 world series, and came 5 outs from bringing the cubs to the world series. Maybe if the players on the cubs could play to their potential we wouldnt be disscussing this.

Does your boss judge you based on what you did 3 years ago, or what you did recently?

I want the Cubs to win long term. If that means losing short term, then fine, lets do it and get it over with. Like pulling a band-aid.

I've heard both. It would explain why there hasn't even been a ceremonial firing yet, be it Rothschild or Clines, despite the putrid offensive and pitching performance.

Exactly. It's the "what have you done for me lately" question. Coaches routinely get fired after a few years of mediocre/bad seasons even if they have had success in the past.

Murton in the 3-hole and Cedeno batting 6th ahead of Jones. Interesting. Edited by E.J.

We should bat Maddux 8th and Blanco 9th. Murton 3rd? Interesting.

I really like the 2-5, especially the 3-5. I hope Murton has a good game so Dusty will leave him in the 3 spot for at least a few games.

Huh. Murton in #3.

Interesting lineup. I'm gonna be excited to see how it performs.

And for the record, I can't ever root against the Cubs. For me it's just impossible. I love them too much.
