sounds pretty fair.

Fair!!?? It's bull. Rodgers got 20 for attacking 2 cameramen and it was reduced to 13 on appeal. 13 for a SP is like 2-3 starts. 10 for a catcher is like 7-8-9 games!!!

Yeah, fair. He got 10, he can probably get it reduced to about 8. MB was completely in the wrong here. It was fun to watch, but he was dead wrong. No other Cubs got suspended or fined (although Hendry and Baker should have both been fined for their negligent treatment of one of their own players who actually stuck up for his teammate), Anderson got a nice chunk of time, and Cora got hit as well.

Meh, using the pitcher/position player argument I guess is a valid criticism, but I'm still not sold that 10 games isn't fair. Even Barrett admitted that he was out of line.

White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski has been fined an undisclosed amount for his conduct during the incident.

Hank White and his .051 batting average are now in the lineup! Can he please bat 9th? Seriously.

Can Barrett play while he appeals?

Yes (to the 2nd question). I tried answering your first, but I puked in the process.

But what's he going to say? If he comes out and says, "yeah I decked him and I'd do it again tomorrow. AJ's an (expletive)" - he'd have gotten a bigger suspension. You look remorseful in the media and hope for leniency.

10 is sending a message, and I really don't have a problem with it. The appeal will probably get it down to 7, which means even less offense for a week. Woo hoo!

Can his appeal be to have it enforced once a week for 7 weeks? That way it fall on his typical day off and it doesn't really hurt the team. Nobody likes AJ anyway.

I said the same thing in another thread and somebody else used a different player/pitcher example.

10 games for a position player is 1/16th of a season.

10 games for a pitcher costs him 2 starts which would be approx 2/32 = 1/16th of a season.

So they both lose the same amount of playing time.

So Lee is hoping to be back by the second week of June, and appeal hearings are usually done on offdays since the player usually has to appeal in NY. Then 1-2 days until an appeal decision is made. So hopefully he can delay this process enough to get Lee back in the lineup.

They often wait for a team to come to NY if they can. The Cubs are there in late July.

10 games is right on. as much as i liked it. barrett was way out of line. aj was a legal play. barrett's play was not part of the game...like charging the mound or throwing at someone.

as far as the pitcher/player comparison goes the big thing is that pitchers are still paid by the game not the start..losing 20 games is 1/8 of your salary...which is quite a chunk of change on top of any fine. rogers probably made about 5 mil so he dropped 650,000 for missing 4-5 starts.

Barret was in the wrong, but he should still appeal. I think 7 days is more fair.

And, why did AJ get fined? He didn't really do anything other than put his face in the way of MB's fist.

10 days? That's crap.

Robby Alomar got 5 games for spitting in another man's face. Pitchers usually don't get more than 5 games for a throwing a 90MPH baseball at a person. 10 games for punching someone? That's complete crap.

i 've got 2 words for you before you think he got harsh punishment

rudy tomjanovich. and that happened in the middle of a fight/melee..

physically attacking someone like that is a dangerous thing..nothing happened but next time?

look outside of the game...

spit in someones face, you don't even get a ticket, just an argument

attack someone like barrett did and you go to jail.

Players get "physically attacked" frequently in baseball. When a player charges the mound after getting drilled, does he get suspended for 10 games? Ever? No, he doesn't and it's crap that Barrett got 10 games.

And I have no idea who Rudy Tomjanovich is.
