I'm not talking about anyone in the Cubs organization. I'm talking us, the faithful, the fans.

I keep heaning fans of "the other team" and the "Team rumored to be in St. Louis" saying "You don't deserve anything, you have to win the championshipps, blahblahblahblahcubssuckblahblahblah."

This is true. It has to be earned and the Cubs do suck. At least this year.

BUt who earns it? That's right, the people in the front office, and the people on the field.

How about the fans? Those of us who support this team by going to wrigley, buying baseball caps, buying products advertised during the broadcasts, constantly trying to defend the indefensable.. Yes, we THE FANS deserve a WS title because of our LOYALTY to this team! We give and give to this organization, and yet, for 96 years, we end up with the same results.

We, the fans, deserve better than what we are given.

As a fan of that "team to be rumored", I'll admit that I'd smile a little bit if the Cubs won the WS. You folks are darn good fans.

Take solace in the fact that Barry might pass da Babe and limp right past Albert in just a few hours

What fan doesn't deserve his / her team to win it all at least once?

Idiotic, arrogant morons that are drunk almost all the time. Those types of fans.

I dont deserve it. I am a fan. I root for them through thick and thin. I dont hit or catch or pitch. The guys who do that are the ones who will earn it. Nothing worth anything is ever given to you, nothing at all. At least anything short of the love from your diety of belief or your parents.

Sounds like the majority of fans that go to Wrigley nowadays.

Yeah your right we don't deserve it. Those hard working players deserve it. And if they don't get it, all they have to look forward to is their millions of dollars and national fame. Poor them, I feel so selfish looking at my bank account and realizing all the money I put into this team. I deserve NOTHING

Im sorry but you dont. You arent signed by contract to root for this team. You arent drug through years of minor league fandom just to get a shot at big league fandom.

Yea I was a big league fan for 21 days. The best 21 days of my life. The fans have exploding cheers, and other unbelieveable stuff. You know you get to spent 6 bucks on a hot dog in the show? And the bleachers... all long and no splinters.

There are no pro sports if there are no fans. Tell me if these same players put all this passion and hard work into their game if the result is playing baseball at some YMCA for no money. The answer is that they won't. They'd be doing something else to make money. They work hard so they can play in front of fans. Fans who pay money and ensure they make millions. The fans inherently invest in the team so they can be rewarded with entertainment at first and eventually seeing their favorite team win a championship. The fans deserve it as much and likely more then the players.

Sounds good. I figured it was one of those arguments where we'd have to agree to disagree anyways :)

White Sox Fans.

Most of the ones I know would fall under this category.

The answer to the question is, we deserved one LONG ago. Now we're overdue.

I don't know about deserving a WS, although it sure would be nice. But for the money invested in this franchise, what the fans DO deserve is a better all-around product, one that wins 90-plus games more years than not. Playoff performance, especially since the advent of the Wild Card, IMO does not provide an accurate measurement of how good a team really is.

OTOH, Wrigley and curses sell all too well.

Please, tell me what being the fan of a winning ballclub is worth.

Deserves ain't got nothing to do with it. I suppose in theory you could argue every fan of every team deserves to see their team win at least one title but obviously that isn't reality.

I've never felt like I deserved anything. I'm just hopeful I live to see the day the Cubs win it all. I have had the privilege of seeing the Chicago Bears win the Super Bowl and Indiana Hoosiers win the NCAA basketball championship along with seeing the local Fort Wayne Komets capture the old IHL Turner Cup with an unprecedented 12-0 clean sweep in the postseason. So I've experienced that thrill before. Plus I've seen my Indiana Pacers make the NBA Finals which was quite a thrill even though they lost.

The Red Sox and White Sox winning titles gives me faith that it can happen for the hapless Cubbies too. Even though I suspect 2003 was supposed to be our year which would have made for the most unlikely trifecta of World Series champions in sports history.

I'm rambling now, so feel free to slap me. I'm laid off and I keep odd hours. Not sure what to do with myself, lol! But once thing about 2003, it doesn't haunt me. I was too young to remember 1984 and I always thought that would be so horrible to experience. Well I got to see it replayed in 2003 and while it sucked at the time, it was one hell of a ride.

All I ask from my teams is that they be competitive, make the playoffs and at least have a shot at competing for a title most years. I don't think any fan can realistically ask for much more.

For the pain and suffering of the past three years, I don't understand how anyone could deny that Cubs fans "deserve" a world series championship. I've been a Cubs fan for every one of my 34 years and I believe in my heart that nothing can compare to the suffering I've endured in the past three years. NOTHING. PERIOD. DISAGREE WITH ME AND I'LL HUNT YOU DOWN!!!!

Bartman and the Gonzo error

Prior and Wood being hurt

(see above) again

(see above) again

The Red Sox win a championship

Nomar is "ok" while playing a half year with the Cubs, then starts the next season off in a slump and tears his groin, misses 3 months, comes back when the team is out of it.

In the same year, all three of the Cubs biggest rivals make the playoffs (Cards, Sox and Stros) and one of them wins it in dominant fashion

The sox are very good this year as well

Still no Prior

Hill and Guzman couldn't be any worse

The constant chirping from sox fans about their championship. I have to hear about it while waiting for a haircut the other day from a women and her two bratty kids who could do nothing but laugh and point.

Ozzie Guillen gets a championship and apparently walks on water despite his own arrogant and disrespectful nature

Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, DLee breaks his wrist and missed 2-3 months

The Cards are in first, the sox are in first, we have the worst offense in the league, the rotation is abysmal and no one seems willing to step up whatsoever.

The front office doesn't know anything

The coaching staff knows nothing

I'm relegated to making rants in the wrong damn forum on a message board.

Life sucks right now.

Cubs fans deserve a championship. My dad deserves a championship. I deserve a championship. I would give a nut, maybe two, for the Cubs to win a world series/>

I can't say you deserve a WS anymore than any other team. I don't really remember the '82 WS win so I hope I get to see one soon. What you guys do deserve is a shot at the post season and what happens from that point on is a fun ride...I will agree that with the Cubs large market, dedicated fans, and substantial payroll anything short of post season is a crime. There is no reason for Chicago fans not to have and want what us Cards fans have. Most fans would be happy and do deserve a shot at the post season. The early 90's were some pretty bad times for us as well...

I don't know if "deserves" is the right word...does BeerHere "deserve" a Cubs WS more then me..?.. a lowly fan of just 20 years? What about poor Steve Bartman? Does he deserve it less because Moises Alou thinks he single handidly cost us the playoffs?

Lets take it to the next level...does the city of Chicago deserve more championships then NY? How about LA? How about Kansas City?

If you watch sports only to see your team win, I think you're missing the point...we can't control whether or not any of our teams win a title, so to say we do or don't "deserve" it is just a little silly.

Yeah you're right Dirt Dog, my grandpa, who was a season ticket holder for several years, and has been cheering for the team for 70 years, doesn't deserve the pleasure and happiness of seeing "his" team win ONE freakin' championship. Geez.

If you don't watch a pro team to see them win, then what is the point of watching them?

I don't know, thats what we should all ask ourselves as Cubs fans

Seriously I hope and pray that they will win one. But the quality of my life is not measured by what the Cubs do. After last night my wife still loves me, my dog thinks I am a great guy, our cats still think I make a great pillow, and my co-workers respect me and think I do a good job. That makes me a very lucky fellow. A Cubs championship would make me happy, but I cant honestly say that any of us deserve it. Just my two cents worth. Your change can vary.
