Well if he gets the cast off May 31 that gives him 9 days to rehab before June 10. It depends on when he gets the cast off I guess. I hope he makes his goal but I want to see a DLee that can actually hit a ball not a DLee that hits like Neifi Perez.

DLee, one-armed or not, is never gonna have the patented "hit the ball into the ground towards the second basemen" swing that Neifi has perfected for damn near 10 years.

I'd rather see a DLee that hits like Neifi Perez than Neifi Perez himself. At least Lee would have a chance of improving.

That's true but it would still be hard to watch for a little while if he was hitting like Neifi.

DLee could hit better than Neifi NOW. I think the worst we see is a May 2004-type Derrek Lee for a while till he gets back in 100 percent shape.

I hope that hand just feels stronger than mine did after I got a cast that was only on for 4 weeks off. Because my hand felt week for quite awhile, and yes I did rehab and worked out with it.

But then again I am not a pro athlete god like D. So he should be fine, no worries.

When I first read the subject of this thread, I thought it meant we were all sending DLee away (as in casting him off). I thought, "Aw jeeze, what NOW?!"

Never thought I'd say this, but thank god its just a broken wrist.

You just have to feel sorry for D Lee sitting there watching all of this go on and know he can do nothing about it. Can't he hit one-armed as a DH in Interleague games? Ha ha. Well, I hope he's back for the next Sox series.

DLee's contract runs the risk of killing this team if he doesn't come back 100%. I don't want him rushing at all. There is nothing good that can come from him being back earlier if he is not the DLee he was before the injury. And I can't see how he'd be close to 100% just 10 days after getting the cast removed. Atrophy has to come into play.

Agree with the above. He can't take the cast off and start hitting the next day. He will likely need to stretch and strengthen the forearm for at least a few days, I would imagine, before even hitting off a tee.

Rushing back and causing permanent damage would be awful. Especially since there likely won't even be a season to save at that point.

Even if there's just a week where he's healthy enough to pinch hit, but not play a whole game, that's a bigtime upgrade to the team.

His wrist will be stronger in the end. it would be really funny if he came back mashing the ball after the Cubs finish their Interleague series w/ the Twins, Indians, and Tigers, and Barrett serves his suspension during this time, and then both of them return to face the White Sox, and along with Jones and his abilities to kill the White Sox, sweep them. That would make my year. Seeing the Sox's opponents face us w/o Lee and Barrett, yet the Sox have to face us w/ them. I would love it.

So you hope the Cubs lose against the Twins, Indians and Tigers? That's messed up.

Oh man, thats the kinda stuff the White Sox used to say before they got good and we sucked.

Do wooden spoons not count as a trophy then?

I don't see how he's going to return to action just 10 days after the cast comes off.

I realize medical technology has advanced, but I broke my wrist and when the cast came off 6 weeks later you could have taken a picture of my wrist and anyone looking at it would have thought it was from an Ethiopian.

Took me quite awhile to build it back up, and that was just for normal use, not to play baseball.

If he can do it, more power to him. But then someone explain how DLee can build his wrist back up from nothing in 10 days, but it takes Prior 6 months to build his muscles back up just from a bout of food poisioning, or flu, or whatever.

These guys are beasts. When I was in Little League, a teammate of mine, broke his wrist, though not as bad. He was in a cast for 4 weeks. And he was back and mashing the ball 2 weeks after the cast was removed. As for Prior, he is just a who can't tell the difference b/t pain and soreness.

Well the North Side is out of it. Might as well drag the South Side down with you.

Did you break your wrist or the bones in your arm near your wrist? Derrek Lee's break is not in the joint but the bones leading to it. From what I've read that's not as bad.
