Anyone have the timeline on that? I don't know how long it takes those bones to heal, much less be ready to swing a bat.

But for some reason, I think there's a good chance that DLee will spend more time playing for the Cubs this season than Mark Prior. Just a gut feel.

I think that's a correct gut even though I hope you are wrong. I mean I hope they both come back healthy, but with Prior slated to return first he will get more playing time.

Gammons said last night Prior back in 2 weeks, Lee back in 4 weeks.

Of course I think he was just talking out of his rear end.

That's no surprise since that's where his head was. :P

UPDATE!!: Derreck Lee still has a cast on. Thank you.

I should just let this pass, but as I am slightly bored and warm (no A/C in the home office), pls note that I simply asked the question because I didn't know the exact answer re: recovery time. No reason for you to respond flippantly.

UPDATE!!:

It's not the same one he originally had on. He got a smaller one put on a few days ahead of schedule.

Trick question/statement really, self-fulfilling prophecy: Derrek Lee is a position player and will have more playing time anyway

I know, and I'm sorry. I was sarcastically trying to say, let's not focus too much on Derreck Lee until he atleast gets his cast off. And that will be a little under 3 weeks. Let's just focus on Wood and Prior and hope they come back strong and keep some positive momentum going, so Lee will have SOMETHING to come back to!! :)

That's a good point. I actually though about that when I typed my response but decided to ignore it.

The time it takes for a bone to heal is about 8 weeks. However, not knowing which bone(s) Lee broke in his wrist, or the severity - he could get his cast off as scheduled only to find that there isn't union, and needs more time to heal properly. Not to mention rehab.

I fractured the scaphoid bone in my left wrist a couple of years ago, had a titanium screw inserted, and was in and out of a cast in 10 weeks. Now, when I got out of the cast I had to deal with the muscle atrophy, which takes several weeks to get back to normal - so anyone thinking DLee will be back sooner rather than later may be in for a rude awakening.

Does anyone know specifically what bones were broken? It isn't really as bad as I was making it sound, and it is great that he didn't need surgery.

Len said the same about Prior tonight.

From Cubs.com Lee

Lee has progressed to where he can take some swings in the cage using a shorter, lighter bat. He can only do one-handed swings as he continues to rehab from a fractured right wrist, suffered April 19. "That's what it is -- it's something to do rather than sit around," Lee said. "It's coming."
