I keep hearing this question numerous times every single day on ESPN whether that is SportsCenter/Around The Horn/PTI, etc but nobody ever mentions the correct reason. A few years of hardcore steroid use is catching up to him. People just say his knees are bad and are wearing down because he's old.

Jim Rome was gone last week but I'm sure he's said it at some point because he's the only one who has the balls to. I'm just sick of hearing the same old thing over and over again. Why are people so afraid of mentioning steroids? It just baffles me.

EDIT: Another reason I just heard that idiot John Kruk said is it's because of his swing but no mention of steroids. Sure he might not be swinging well, but don't you think that it's because he body is screwed up due to steroids?

It's because nobody is brave enough to pull Bonds pants down and have a look at the evidence. Bonds can still pack a punch, I'm sure.

By the way, ANY idea what day that game was on? I have MLB.TV and I'd love to see the game where that banner was raised.

He's pressing to get to 714.

And of course his body broke down due to steroids. That's why he can't run, field, or really do anything but swing the bat anymore.

maybe the baseball gods are fair and just and won't let him get 714. maybe decades of bad karma are dragging this out before his knee explodes and ends his career at 713

Nah. He'll get to 715  . But I smile every time I see him miss. Cause I know it's just another at bat down toward his goal of being #1. At this rate he stands no chance of passing Aaron :D . (Unless they let him wheel himself out there in a wheelchair over the next few years). .

It is because he's old. Mostly. Maybe the steroids caught up with him, but how many guys his age aren't having significant problems with major league pitching?

What makes you right and them wrong? Bonds was well past 400 HR when he supposedly started taking steriods. He has always been a leg-driven power hitter that currently has minimal power from his legs.

His body is breaking down and he's almost 42. Really Bonds this year reminds of Sammy's 2004 season. I suspect he is going to only get worse and much faster. I heard the other day, at this pace, Bonds wont catch Hank till sometime in 2008. Or more likely, never. When these hulking Home Run brutes start to decline and have physcial problems, their career comes to an end rather quickly.

What disgusts me is the respect and fear pitchers are still showing Bonds. I guess habits die hard. He's hitting .217 but still gets walked as if he's hitting .375 and his OBP is still way over .450. Make the guy prove he still deserves that kind of treatment.

the more you make him run, the sooner he will be gone? I'd walk him just to make him run the bases. I think McGwire is an even better comparison than Sosa.

Agreed. Sosa was done because he stood 8 feet away from the plate and couldn't come close to touching the outside pitch. His body never had the chance to fully break down on him. McGwire and Bonds are deteriorating before our very eyes.

Who cares how many home runs Bonds hit before he took steroids? I never said that Bonds wasn't a great player before. I've openly admitted that Bonds would have been one of the best to ever play even if he didn't take steroids. I believe Bonds is the only player with 400 HR/400 SB which he achieved in 1998 which is before he started juicing.

Are you saying that every player's knees go out when they age? Because if you think that you are horribly wrong. Players get older and all of a sudden they can't swing the bat as quickly anymore or they aren't able to pick up pitches quick enough. But the breakdown Bonds is having is directly tied to steroid use which is the exact same thing that happened to McGwire. My dad is 53 and he can run FAR better than Bonds can right now.

The guy juiced heavily and now he's paying for it. I hope he's in pain every day and I hope he suffers. He deserves it.

I think he just stopped doing roids last year when the testing started, and we're seeing the precipitous result of a 41 year old man who was artificially playing better than he should have been able to for years.

He's just plummetting downhill without the roids to keep him stronger and help him stay in playing condition, IMHO.
