I said before the season I wanted a quick fall from contention and I want it more than ever now. The sooner the house-cleaning and fire sale commence the better the team will be for 2007.

Speaking of rediculious. Before the season you wanted a quick fall from contention? Wow.

Why is it ridiculous? I looked at the team and didn't see a contender, and the org. needs some housecleaning anyway so yeah, let's crash fast, take out the trash, and get ready for next year. Better that than some tragically halfassed darkhorse run this year.

Doesn't need to be that fast, as long as its done by the trading deadline. I kinda liked how the Cubs teased us with that Cardinals series. I was starting to forget why I liked baseball and the Cubs, so at least they got a chance to remind me.

they said the Padres were a team we should handle easily and win the series

I'm actually looking forward to next season. A whole lot of money comes off the books and all the youngsters will be a year better. With a few good moves the Cubs will be pretty tough.

the padres are redhot, so maybe the cubs are better than what they've been showing. since they have z, marshall and wood going in the washington series, i have hope. if washington beats up on the cubs, forget it.

(a) No they're not better - that's the point.

(b) Explain the losses to the Pirates, Diamondbacks, and Giants in the same time-frame.

In SF, the rookie pitchers didn't pull through. Versus Pitt & AZ the Cubs were in the midst of a massive hitting slump. Guzman pitched vs. Pitt. Sure loss. Maddux returned to earth vs. AZ.

In short, the problems were the pitching and the hitting.

Well, if thats all.....

There's an excuse for every loss. The problem is, they all add up to a bad team.

If they Padres are hot it is because they've played six games against the Cubs. It is all relative.

the padres are redhot

Who knows if they actually are...7 of their last 14 victories have come against the Cubs.

7 out of 8 vs other teams is quite good.

It's ridiculous to hope your team fails, especially before the the season even starts. Did you see a contender before the 2003 season? If not you must have wanted a quick fall from contention that year also. You must have been pretty dissapointed come mid October.

I am sorry, but I just have to bring this up, it's ridiculous, not "ridiculous". That is all.

I really wish someone would have pointed that out like 17 years ago. No telling how many times I've misspelled that word in my lifetime.

I saw no better time for the Cubs to come to life than after their first 3 games into the 8 game loosing streak. And before going something like 1 out of 12. But that didn't happen.

What are you going to say when the Nationals beat us 2 out of 3, and the Sox Sweep us? Are you going to say "no beter time when being 11 under .500 and facing the worse team Florida"? You SERIOUSLY think this team (and the way it's playing now) is just going to magically come back to life and SWEEP the Nationals? (Sweep ANY team for that matter) and actually beat a far superior team, the White Sox? (yuck it hurts to say it)

I want the Cubs to succeed too. But what you're going on right now, is blind faith.

IF someone's rooting for a quick fall, they're essentially rooting for multiple injuries, a major decline in key players, and for the young players to be either below average or just average.

Wood, Prior & Lee are all hurt.

ARam's horrible.

Guzman & Williams sucked.

Cedeno, Murton & Hill are all bordering average.

I don't think anyone roots for injuries. I think someone rooting for a quick fall is hoping that no one who is going to inevitably come back to other plays so much over their head that they anectdotally validate a faulty strategy, while at the same time make the team no more than mediocre, because that dooms a team to perpetual mediocrity.

If your team's realistic ceiling is somewhere around .500, you want bad players to play as expected and good players to play as expected, because that should guarantee change in a positive direction the next year.

fall down 15 times, stand up twice.

That actually made me laugh. Unfortunately it rings so true for this team.

I'm a pathetic fan because if the Cubs suck like I'm expecting on Thursday, I'm gonna boo.

Scott, I"m curious, how many games do you go to a year?

At least 5 -6.

Your point being? Since people might attend more that I have a small sample of experiance to pull from right?

I see people acting embarassingly. IMO. To me it shows that they don't understand the game at all. All they know is stats and stat books filled with numbers on how this player should have this avarage or should be this good for my team.

That's more than I'll go to this year because I don't feel like wasting my money anymore on a crap product on the field. I normally go to double digit games, but as tickets get more expensive and the team on the field sucks more, its difficult to justify to myself spending that much money with the great chance I'll be disappointed. The Cubs fans who go to Wrigley are no longer "blind leading the blind" when it comes voicing their displeasure of the on field product. Call it embarassing if you'd like, I call it long overdue.

mark,

I can't argue with that.

Yes I do believe the Cubs will have an opportunity to sweep the Nationals. I think there better the them.

As for the White Sox. I think we'll take the series. I believe the Cubs players will do much better then the last 2 weeks and begin playing baseball. after all they really have nothing to lose where as the White Sox do.

The Cubs climb out of the 7 game below .500 and gain Wood and get our pitching staff back on the track then I nice winning streak will happen.

But it all begins tomorrow night. With Big Z.
