Why don't the Cubs stand for the national anthem? Every visiting team comes to town, removes their caps, and shows respect for the flag. Half the cubs are in the clubhouse during the anthem. It's been this way since 2003, and I find it embarassing. Am I the only one disgusted by that?

I don't have the link, but I've read a discussion on this subject. This year certainly isn't the first year that few players come out for the Anthem.

The Cubs hate freedom.

Freedom isn't free. It takes folks like you and me

I've noticed it since 2003.. Honestly, I am not positive one way or another about the years before it. I *think* Baylor made them come out and stand... but I am not 100% positive.

It really bothers me... especially when you have someone like Wayne Messmer singing.

It's pretty sad if true. You'd think they could at least show a tiny bit of respect to the country that lets them get millions of dollars to play a freaking game. Or hell, if they don't wanna do it for patriotic reasons, they should at least do it because they respect the traditions of the game itself.

Hmmm...that's a neat perspective, I think I should pick it up. I'd rather have evil joy than pissed off anger.

My brother-in-law refers to it as "fun bad." Where you just don't care and you can laugh at just how shockingly terrible a team is.

call me a terrorist,. but I don't feel like the anthem needs to be sung before every sporting event. It loses its meaning. Its just one of those things you have to do before starting. The level of enthusiasm by those in the crowd singing it is about 0.02 out of 10. I say save it for the important events.

Is it like before a Blackhawks game at the old Chicago Stadium? No.

I still remember during the first gulf war the BHawks and St. Louis Blues played on a Saturday night. It was only about a week into the air part of the War but feelings were high. An already loosened up crowd went nuts when Wayne came out and belted the National Anthem. People in my section actually passed out sparklers as others furiously waved American flags.
