Very dumb managing by the Padres. Intentionally walking Neifi to get to the pitcher made no sense when Z had thrown 107 and was sure to be pulled for a PH. An RHP vs. Neifi was the best situation the Padres could have hoped for.

Was it a poor decision? It got Zambrano out of the game. And Dusty is known for racking up high pitch counts for his starters.

IMO getting out of the inning with no runs allowed was way more urgent than chasing Z.

At the same time, the Padres have one of the best defenses in baseball, a park that tends to keep balls in play and a struggling offense. There was no guarantee that the Cubs would pull Zambrano, a guy they struggled to hit all night.

Is that sarcasm? Weren't the bases loaded? A fielder going for the rundown would make no sense when you have a forceout at second.

No sarcasm. If the fielder has a mental lapse and goes for the tag on the runner between 1st & 2nd rather than getting the force, enough time could pass for the runner to score.

Baker let Prior throw nearly 130 pitches in his 3rd game of the season last year, IIRC. I thought it was pretty stupid considering he started the season on the DL.

I think Baker would have sent Z back to the hill.

Piror's 3rd start last year was 106 pitches.

the difference between the worst offensive team and an acceptable offense for a 100 mil team is much more than lee. this offense was not good w/ lee, and it obviously sucks w/o him.

You're right, of course. I was thinking he came back around May 12, but it was April 12. Prior threw 126 pitches against the White Sox in a Sunday game near the end of May.

Pathetic? There's nearly a potential all-star at every position. It's the Lee injury that's really killing us.

is that sarcasm?

Except for right field, I would agree.

I like the youngsters as much as the next guy, but Murton and Cedeno are far from All-Stars.

Neither are Walker, Jones and Pierre.

In fact the only 2 All-Stars I see are Lee and Ramirez.

C - Barret is the best hitting catcher in the NL

1B - Lee

2B - If Walker plays everyday he could be an allstar.

3B - Ram

SS - Cedeno could be the starting SS for the NL this year.

The outfield is bumalicious besides Murt, who has all star potential, but is not quite there. The infield rocks.

Cedeno is good but he also has to compete with Reyes, J.Wilson, and Lopez at SS. Walker has to compete with Phillips and Utley so I don't see that happening either.

Ram so far isn't even looking close to how he was last year. Let's not jump the gun and call everybody potential all-stars because there are better players out there.
