The Sox just won in the bottom of the 11th.

I had that game on and enjoyed it. Thrilling finish. I admit it, I don't hate the Sox.

if it makes anyone feel better, the guy the cubs traded for freddy bynum -- he of the sub-.600 OPS -- threw 8 1/3 innings of one run ball in arlington.

Who did we trade for him?

Koronka

doh. that's right. I really don't care. Koronka's not going to be good anywhere.

Then again, we could have gotten someone better than bynum for him.

I agree. He could have been packaged with some other arms. Just because we don't need 10 SP doesn't mean we should just give them away.

Though in fairness, his value wasn't really high after last year.

any trade that brings in freddy bynum is a bad trade. i'd rather have koronka in iowa than bynum in chicago.

He was out of options, hence the trade.

Koronka was not out of options.

We have one good starter now, and he pitched in double A last year.

pretty stupid comment dontcha think?

Rusch pitched in AA last year?

Wasn't he traded to make room on the 40 man?

Well if Bynum is on the 25 man roster, that means there wasn't any space opened.

Nope, considering Bynum took not only his 40-man spot but also a 25-man spot.

Koronka, as part of a package, might have had more value than we'd think. There are several teams that would love to have a cheap league average starting pitcher or even a replacement level starting pitcher.

The Cubs farm system doesn't produce hitters, so we stockpile pitching to trade for: Pierre and Bynum?!?

I'm an idiot. Or just trying to rationalize the move in some way, which isn't possible.

he was traded b/c hendry has an inexplicable fetish for fast guys that can play multiple positions and put up a .580 OPS.

The A's were going to release Bynum anyway, so it wasn't a great move.

I really don't think we'll look back at Koronka like we do Dontrelle or Jon Garland, but why give up anyone for a guy we could have probably gotten for free?

Not to step on Fred's territory, but for those of you who like stats, the Cubs are currently 4th in the NL in Neifi Points (a statistic of my own creation calculated by adding sac hits with GIDP)...

Colorado 43
San Francisco 41
Pittsburgh 40
CUBS 38
