I saw an M's game in Seattle a couple of years ago, where I had a good seat in the RF bleachers, right next to the bullpen. Behind me was a row of Japanese young ladies, dressed in kimonos, flip flops, and sunglasses - they cheered for Ichiro at every AB, every time he ran to his position, and every time he made a fielding play.

I think Matt Murton needs a similar cheering section in the LF bleachers. I'm thinking five, maybe six young ladies, dressed in matching T-shirt and skirt, in different colors, like M&Ms.

What to call them, though? While it would be kind of a "posse", I scrapped that idea immediately - the joke writes itself. I cannot be a credit to my sex with this M&M girl concept, much less the sexist jokes stemming from it!

Well our bench was nicknamed "The Lemons" a couple years ago, "The Carrots" could work in the stands, I guess.

i'd be a murton groupie, i'm a straight male but I'd still do it.

Same.

I'm highly tempted to do something special for the game tomorrow. (in relation to Matt Murton, who is henceforth known as "God")

I'm thinking more along the lines of short skirt and bikini top. But great idea!

He does have a group of guys that show up from time to time with their hair dyed bright red and "M_U_R_T_O_N" painted on their chests.

I was at the Sunday night St. Louis game and half od the LF bleachers were bowing to him. That's a good start.

I alos love his approach; even when he was struggling, you could see he was still trying to take picthesthe other way and make something good happen.

I have the perfect outfit. Everyone wears big red wigs and carries a giant net. The net, of course, is to help catch the balls that Murton can't get into the bleacher seats at the end of an inning. :)

Murton is turning into one of the best clutch hitters in the game.

he is turning into absolute money and i for one have been pleasantly shocked by his performance this year.

I haven't. I could tell something was different about this kid right from the start. I've never seen someone come up and just start raking like he did and he's just gotten better from there. His OBP is above .370 now, I believe. And I don't think he's come up with the Cubs trailing after the 6th and men on yet this year and not made something happen. He's a stud.

any chance he becomes more of a power hitter in the future, because with his discipline, he could easily become one of the more dominant players in the game.

He'll hit for some power - probably 20-30 HR.

Slugging % is overrated. Give me 100+ RBIs a year, and we are good. He is on a pace for 122 RBIs this season.

SLG% is huge. It also consists of more than HR.

how can you discount slg %? If matt murton can hit for more power, and hit for more extra base hits, he could be something special.

At least you didn't look around for SABR geeks before you said it.
