it was lovely.

lidge has had no control since the WBC. it's nice to see it finally catch up to him.

Did anyone see it?

It was SWEET. When he walked drew and Kent (?) I was praying that there wouldn't be a DP. Nomar battled (I thought he was going to strike out because Lidge blew a 96 MPH pitch by him). IMO, Lidge has not been the same since late last year when the Cubs helped him to a blown save.

It's still very early, but Lidge does not look like the dominant closer we saw in the second half of 2004 and for most of 2005.

There has been some speculation that the Pujols HR damaged his psyche. Until he puts together a month or two of strong closing, there will continue to be specualtion. He has given up 3 HR, but that isn't that disturbing. What would be disturbing to me is the walks, 7 in 10 2/3 innings. He has a 1.69 WHIP so far, though it is still very early.

What is the NL gonna do... when Brad Lidge keeps blowing saves?

 well played!

I believe that the downfall of Lidge started when Walker got that big hit off him on one leg at the end of last year.

Lidge has never had good success against the Cubs. I can think of a few instances where he fell apart (The Jeff Gordon Game, Sammy's 10th inning walkoff) against them. His three year numbers against the Cubs aren't pretty, either.

That's the game I'm talking about! He hasn't been the same since that point.

Awesome. I hate Houston more than ever for chucking the World Series.

The Astros got swept but the games were close. The Astros played good baseball in the Series but the Sox were better. No shame in that unlike the Cards in 2004.

I would agree with this. Everyone knew Houston would have trouble scoring runs. It was simply the White Sox' year, from the Dye "HBP" to Podsednik golfing a terrible pitch to hit out of the yard to Geoff F***ing Blum hitting a game-winner in Game 3 to no one in Houston thinking to go reverse-Bartman on that popout in Game 4.

Lidge owned the Cards until the Pujols HR, 1.01 ERA, .138 BAA.

You mean the year they beat the Astros in the NLCS?

A sweep is a sweep. The Cardinals played poor baseball 2 years ago, but the Astros were equally embarrased last year.

Good point. The Cubs have handled him pretty well over the years.

All I ask for as a fan is good baseball. Did you watch the 2004 NLCS? Great series. I felt no shame when the Astros lost. I gained a ton of respect for that Cards team but lost it all when they tanked in the Series. Most boring World Series ever. Yes a sweep is a sweep but good baseball is good baseball. The Cards did not play good baseball in the 2004 World Series. The '05 Series included two one-run games and two two-run games. One game was decided in the ninth and another in the fourteenth. I felt no shame losing to the White Sox. The Astros fought tooth and nail but the Sox played better baseball.

I don't care what kind of fight you put up, you're directly responsible for that rotten organization and its fans getting the right to defecate all over the city. I hold Cleveland, Boston and L.A. to equal standards of bitterness.
