New RF please. Bring up Pie. Bring up Sing. Bring back Sammy. Anything. Jones sucks.

I just don't get it. The Cubs were frustrated by Corey's inability to be a more selective hitter, so naturally they go out and get a more EXPENSIVE, OLDER version of Corey. I just don't get it. I would prefer Burnitz to Jones.

Jim Hendry = No Offseason Plan.

Again.

Funny. It seems like he at least put together one of the best bullpens in baseball, if nothing else.

and a good bullpen is what % of a complete team?

It's given us more than a couple wins this season. Look at the Marlins tonight. Offense, starting pitching, and defense are good to great. One arm loses the game for them. He walked them into a loss.

The mismanagement of the pen by Girardi is as much to blame as the one pitcher who get rocked in the 8th.

He didn't have a Lefty, so I don't know how much was up to him.

Listen, he had a plan. It might have not worked completely, and it might not have been the exact same one you or wastra might have wanted...but for some around here it's like pulling teeth to give Hendry ANY credit.

And it gets old.

so far his bullpen moves look good. but building a good pen and doing only that isn't anything to get all excited about.

also, you say he 'had a plan' as if that alone deserves credit. i'm confused by that.

and if you're so tired of my posts, put me on ignore.

I apologize for what i said earlier. Jones clearly does not have Pattersonitis, because he hit a homer when it mattered.

patterson's walk off homeruns that he's had don't count anymore?

how's alex sanchez doing btw?

I'll take Z's performance today, everyday.

Not even necessarily a lefty/lefty matchup. Johnson clearly didn't have anything tonight and Girardi left him out there to pitch.

I think that people will agree with you that his offensive plan was crap. However his bullpen plan has been great. So people think that announcing hendry had no plan is a little disingenious. That being said - your points regarding the offense hold alot of merit.

You go to law school, right?

I'm guessing that you've learned to parse through material a little better than this.

what material did i mis-parse?

I don't like JJ for our RF solution, but you gotta admit, the few hits he's had have been huge. It's April, we've won 11 games (with three of our five best players on the DL), and JJ has won 2 of those games for us. That's a bigger contribution than the $10MM man Aramis Ramirez. The man-child Carlos Zambrano. Or any of our simulated all-star team on the disabled list. Sit Jones against lefties, and he could end up being passable for us.

Apparently, you are willing to give Wastra a pass by using only Jones as ringing proof as an indictment against Hendry that he had "no plan", yet me pointing to the superior bullpen he has assembled as one indicator that he DID have "a plan" is lacking?

Not very consistent of you there.

I'm not sure what any poster's educational background has to do with a baseball discussion. Let's keep things from getting personal.

It wasnt intended to be any sort of insult. Actually, it was more of a compliment. But, I guess I can see how it could be taken the wrong way, so I'll refrain from now on.

28% with 7 pitchers in the 'pen and 24% with 6.

Not a problem, just thought I'd drop a quick comment. Carry on...

C'mon, let's not call out particular posters and pick on them -- dredging up the Sanchez stuff is calculated to do just that. It has no bearing on this conversation.

Aw, thats just rocket. But i am glad he asked. Sanchez is tearing up Double A ball for the Chattanooga Lookouts. Hitting .333 with 2 HRs and batting 5th. Had a 3 run jack on the Jaxx the other nite. Should be up to AAA in a couple of weeks, but probably doesnt have a future as a Red because of Cody Ross. Will make some trade bait down the line though.

How is CPatt doing in Baltimore btw? thought so (can you say AAAA?)

Please drop the Sanchez/Patterson discussion in this thread. If you want a discussion, that's fine, but carry it to another, more topical, thread.

Jock is not too happy with the fans...

Jones then ripped into Cubs fans for a perceived lack of support, pointing out he's not the first Cubs player to get harassed at Wrigley.

"I'm not confused at all," he said. "I've seen friends go through it. Sammy Sosa hit 60 home runs three years in a row, went into a little slump and ... hey, like I said earlier, they have a right to voice whatever opinion they want to voice.

"But it's not going to make me play any better. It's not going to make me play any worse. I'm just going to go play the game the way I know how."

Jones said he was "hearing all kinds of stuff" in the outfield throughout the game before hitting a three-run shot off Josh Johnson to snap a 3-3 tie in the eighth.

"I'm just getting used to it," he said. "Where I came from, they were passionate about baseball. We probably didn't draw as many [in Minnesota], but they were there through thick and thin. [The booing] is something I've got to get used to. I'm blocking it out as much as I can."

This is the second time he's complained after delivering a big home run, maybe the fans are doing something right after all.

I was just about to post it, and isn'it it funny, I had just about the exact same part cut out of the article for pasting. .
