Picked this up from the today's Game Thread - Guzman is up with the team, is Hendry finally developing some nerve and is going to take a chance on another youngster?

In place of who in the rotation though, Rusch or Marshall?

There is no way Marshall will get sent down, unless he is hurt. Marshall's WHIP is pretty good and beside a couple bad innings he has looked better than any 5th starter option the Cubs currently have.

Yeah, he and Rusch are very similar so far. I'd like to see Marshall get another start though and see what happens.

I love moves that don't make sense. Not only does this likely mean that Guzman will miss two starts so he can sit in the bullpen, but it means that we'll have EIGHT bullpen pitchers. EIGHT. We have a short bench and yet he doesn't bring up a bat when they go to a temporary 4-man rotation?

whenever and whoever he starts for, I hope this isnt a showcase start in a potential deal to help replace lee- This front office would do something that stupid, Not to be negative, but i could see this being a showcase start coming up for Guzman-He's healthy for the first time and what will we do-trade him and watch him win 20 somewhere else-God I hope not

How do you know he won't be in the rotation?

According to what was posted in the game thread. He'll be used in the bullpen and the Cubs will use a 4-man rotation thanks to the off-day on Thursday.

I think that the obvious thing is that the Pen has been overused and they needed a long relief candidate given that Novoa is really a 2 inning guy at the most. Dusty has burnt the pen the last couple of days and needed a fresh arm until the off day Thursday.

Well, the pen has been overworked as of late.

It's not a bad idea for the near future.

He'll still get work.

If they're going to carry eight bullpen pitchers, one or two of them aren't going to see much action. Guzman needs to be pitching period. He hasn't hit a groove yet in his starts with Iowa so far and he simply should not be pulled out of a rotation.

I probably miscounted, though. If they start Guzman the next time they need a 5th starter, he'll have missed one turn in the rotation and then start two or three days after he should have made that second start. Either way, I don't like it. If they felt they needed an extra arm to rot on the bench, just call up Ryu or someone else.

He had a bad outing in 1 IP the second game of the year out of the bullpen. He followed that up with 4 scoreless innings and then made a pretty good start against Pittsburgh. Why not just keep him in the bullpen?

I'm just waiting for Pie to be called up to watch Jones strike out from the bench.

There is the possibility they are showcasing Guzman to some potential trading partners. Its possible some suitors want to seem him face major leaque talent in a stadium full of fans to get a better read of his make-up.

Makes sense to send Jerome down so he can get another start when his turn comes up, since we will be going to 4-man in the near future. No sense jerking him around from starter to pen.

An outing = a start? OK. We don't need to get into a counting dispute.

40% of his appearances (starts + pen) have been horrible. Why is our pen worn out? Maybe it has to do with our starter going 1 and a third innings on Friday. They were pretty taxed as it was. We brought up an arm and sent down a guy with options. Shocking.

Until Jerome starts figuring out how to close out his shoulder and throw strikes, I have no problem with him not being with the big club.

He walked the pitcher with the bases loaded for crying out loud. I can't think of anything more annoying.

Guzman's value is as a starter. A high ceiling starting pitching prospect. A team isn't going to take a few IP from a long relief role as an indicator of how good he can be.

I'd much, much rather do that to Williams than Guzman.

WGN Radio confirmed it, sadly...

Well, according to Hendry, they're not going to a 4-man rotation, though they haven't decided who is starting Wednesday.

Still no clue why wasn't Hill instead, although I have the feeling they didn't want three lefties starting in a row.

Jerome was likely on a short leash thanks to his wonderful spring. Let's not forget about that before you start complaining about sending someone down after "one bad outing."

Hopefully, other pitchers learn a lesson, don't think you are going to be successful after an offseason of pizza and twinkies.

Eek....I hope this doesn't mean some over rated veteran 1st baseman isn't a guy targeted and Guzman is just part of the trade.
