Seriously, what's the point of having a one-dimensional singles and base stealing leadoff hitter if you're going to give up a freaking out just to get him to second?

Thank you, Aramis.

I think Aramis is just about ready to bust out in a big way. He's looked really good today, even before he jacked that one.

I HATE seeing a #2 hitter sac bunt.

I guess Dusty is feeling desperate for each run, since this lineup isn't really murderer's row.

and he thinks that giving up outs will accomplish that?

It *doesn't* lower your BA.

Yes it does. If you reach on an error, you get charged an AB, 0 for 1.

Yup, think about it logically, you came up to bat (+1 AB) but you did not get a hit or a walk (0 H), so you go 0-1.

And for OBP it counts as a reached base safely.

no it doesn't.

Is there an echo? Should we look at an adjusted ratio? Why not? It'd be a much more accurate assessment of a catcher's ability to throw out a basestealer.

Barrett is typically below average in throwing out basestealers. Nothing I've seen so far this year changes that. A couple botched hit and runs inflated his CS ratio. He'll regress to career averages.

Personally, I think Barrett's bat more than makes up for this deficiency.

That's the answer I was looking for. Thank you.

Botched hit and runs and bad jumps are a part of baseball. I don't think they are as common as stolen base attempts, but they are significant enough that they are counted as SBs. Catcher's indifference seems to subtract from SB numbers for some reason, although why is a bit puzzling.

Barrett's career averages have been affected and influenced by these factors. It's not like a .200 hitter who goes 10-20 over a short span of time; those are outliers. Botched hit and runs plus bad jumps are not.

Wait, I got my conversations crossed. I was talking about on bunts.

Oops...my bad.

In baseball statistics, on base percentage (OBP) (sometimes referred to as on base average (OBA)) is a measure of how often a batter gets to first base for any reason other than a fielding error or a fielder's choice.
