Good lineup Raw. It's probably the best lineup we could reasonably hope for with baker at the helm. If only he'd think about batting Jones 8th.

Does anybody else have a concern that Aram may try and do to much and struggle without Derrek Lee?

Yes. He hasn't been doing well anyway, and he's sure to feel the added pressure from the fans and even the organization. If he doesn't find a way to get it all clicking fast, he'll have a tough time.

That's the lineup I'd go with. Looks pretty bad w/o D Lee.

I guess I'd go with the lineup that has Hairston batting 2nd, but it might be interesting to see what Cedeno or Murton could do in the 2nd spot and having some protection behind them. They have both done well with batting without protection behind them.

I don't like Cedeno in the 2 spot. It increases the pressure on him, and besides, we want people on base for Aram and...Aram. Cedeno's batting three something now, but you have to expect that to drop off, and when it does, his OBP will too, considering he isn't exactly a walk machine.

I like Walker protecting Ramirez. If someone else is behind him, they won't give him anything to hit and he will K a lot.

Barrett??

When he's hot, yeah, but I don't think he is consistent enough to bat cleanup everyday. Even so, Blanco will be in there sometimes.

I agree. I also don't think it's a good idea to have Murton in the 2 spot - not because he wouldn't be a good two hitter, but because we can't afford to put what little power threats we've got at the top of the lineup. I feel similarly about Walker.

I might want to go something like this:

Pierre

Hairston

Murton

Aramis

Walker

Barrett

Jones

Cedeno

I'd also be fine putting Aramis third and moving Murton down to fifth or sixth, but I like Murton third because he takes pitches, which lead to better pitches to hit as well as walks, and allows him to see more of the pitcher early in the game.

Are we all just assuming that Walker is going to start at first, or has that been announced by the Cubs?

nobody knows. he could start at 1b or mabry/restovich could with walker at 2nd.

That big RF bat I said we should get at almost all costs over the winter

Walker

Barrett

Murton

Cedeno

Oh, we didn't get that big RF bat. Erm, scratch that then.

Jacque Jones is killing this team.

After getting off to that 0-12 start, Jones has really started to turn it around.

04/08 - 04/19 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
Jones 20 3 6 0 0 1 9 3 2 5 0.300 0.364 0.450 0.814

I don't know if he can keep up that kind of production, but can we at least give him a little time to show what he can do before we throw him under the bus ?

Jones has gotten exactly zero at bats vs. LHP thusfar. We'll see the real Jacque soon enough.

Pretty good.

I think Murton and/or Cedeno need to be ahead of Jones. Dusty probably won't do though. Murton and Cedeno have been getting on base only to watch the pitcher come up. That's poor.

W/ Lee out, this should be the lineup:

Pierre (CF)

Hairston (2B)

Ramirez (3B)

Murton (LF)

Barrett ©

Jones (RF)

Walker (1B)

Cedeno (SS)

Pitcher

I suggest this, b/c Pierre and Hairston are speed burners, and having them in front of Ramirez, could be the spark he needs to get going, since he can get some better pitches to hit. Murton has shown he can hit, and it's time to turn the kid loose. What have you got to lose? Barrett at 5, since he's turning out to be a great hitter. Jones should bat 6th, b/c w/ Walker's stick behind him, he could get some better pitches. Cedeno 8th, b/c Walker's stick will get him on base, meaning Cedeno should get some better pitches, w/ the pitcher behind him. Walker should be 7th for the purpose of helping get Jones and Cedeno going.

Now the rotation. When the twin glass dolls and Miller return, I suggest the following:

Zambrano

Prior

Maddux

Marshall

Miller

Wood should be moved to the pen under the win-win-win-lose plan and we go w/ a 7-man pen

Then the issue about the kids. I say Marshall, Murton and Cedeno should stay w/ the MLB team, and that it's time to play the kids. I mean, the Braves had 18 rookies last year and did fine. Either play the kids NOW or screw the future to win NOW
