Nice little note off of Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball:

The Chicago Tribune reports Chicago Cubs CL Ryan Dempster tied Joe Borowski's club record Monday, April 17, with his 22nd consecutive save, dating back to last August. He also has gone 30 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run since Aug. 12, 2005.

I'm loving this scoreless innings streak.

Anybody know the longest scoreless innings streak for a reliever??

If I had to guess I would say Gagne from a couple years ago or the Eckersley 1990 year where he had a 0.61 ERA and only allowed 9 runs all year. Not sure though, those are just guesses.

Les Lancaster had a really nice scoreless inning streak in 1989. I think it was 30.2 IP.

Cubs.com lists the Cubs record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched by a reliever as 32.2 by Warren Brusstar in 1983.

They still have Tom Gordon listed as holding the Cubs record for most consecutive save ops converted with 19, though.

I looked around on google, and apparently Gregg Olson (Baltimore Orioles) set a record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched by a reliever in 1990 with 41. So far I can't find any reference to anyone surpassing that mark.

If he breaks Gagne's save streak, we need to buy him that Aston Martin he wanted from D Lee

You can go ahead, but if I'm pitching in on an Aston Martin, I had better be driving it sometimes.

Gagne's save streak is like the hit streak.

I would have to say that Gagne's save streak and Hershiser's scoreless innings streaks are better than DiMaggio's hit streak. A hitter generally gets four plate appearances per game, i.e. four chances to get a hit. For a pitcher, one bad pitch and your streak is over, whether that is scorless innings or consecutive saves. I would say that the scoreless innings streak is even better than the consecutive saves streak because depending on the opportunity, you can give up a run or two and still get a save. You don't get that chance for the scoreless innings streak.

But they are all quite impressive.

Agreed. I'm saying Dempster has a looooonnnnng way to go.

As in, at least a year.

And Dempster's scoreless streak ends at 31.1.

But the save streak lives on!

And now he has broken the club record for consecutive saves.

Signing him was a great move by Hendry.

Agreed and also the reason I thought the Miller pickup was an excellent move.

When Dempster was signed, didn't he pitch very late in the year after rehab?

Yeah, he worked in relief for awhile... he walked the 2 guys before Latroy served up the 3 run homer to Victor Diaz during the collapse of '04.

Yes, much the same way as Williamson pitched late in the year last year. It used to be standard that a pitcher missed an entire year after TJS, but not anymore.

And the save streak is the more important one. The scoreless innings is nice, but as long as he doesn't blow a game, I don't care how many runs he gives up.
