It's interesting.

I hear more Cub fans talk about the "Best Fans in Baseball" thing more than anyone.

well, exept Al Hrabosky...

Most "good" Cards fans I know pay no attention to it. I've said it before, every team has the best fans. There are fans for every team that deserve that moniker.

I don't feel like rummaging through all the pages, so all I'm gonna say is, I've heard the Cardinals have the best fans in not only baseball, but sports, from 75% of all Cardinal fans I've met. For not having won anything in the last 20 years, the Cardinal fans I've met sure are full of themselves. I'm just waiting to hear that the new Busch is better baseball park than Wrigley. And before some of you argue my point, I don't think it's fair to compare all these new ballparks to the historical ones of Wrigley Field, Yankee Stadium, and Fenway Park. But, thats a story for another day.

Well, to be honest...your team winning championships has nothing to do with how good of a fan you are...no matter what The Sporting News says.

Don't spam me over this...but I've heard others say Wrigley is a complete dump.

I've been there, and I wouldn't go so far as to call it a dump...but let's just say the Cubs really need a new ballpark.

I'm a huge fan of the classic parks, and nostalgia is nice...but so is strong concrete.

And for what it's worth...the new Busch is really nice.

Ahh...I see. They've replaced all of the concrete at Wrigley... Isn't that kind of impossible?

Why exactly are you posting here?

My thoughts as well.

In all fairness, you almost HAVE to give the Sporting News survey some credence. I mean, it wasn't even close. St. Louis was at the top with 46%, and Boston was next, with 13%.

I'm not saying that there aren't flaws in a survey like that, but it's a pretty decisive number.

So, you're willing to say Dusty Baker is the best manager. I believe there was a poll conducted that indicated such, no?

The poll was a survey of the players. The players obviously think that Baker is the best manager (they must like the guy). The players believe that St. Louis has the best fans.

Obviously this poll isn't decisive, but if the Sporting News publishes something like that (which seems pretty legitimate), then you can't really blame St. Louis for promoting it.

You can convince yourself of anything if you try hard enough. And really, you don't have to try that hard if you were predisposed to believing it already.

Before the poll came out, [and BTW, a poll is a popularity thing that doesn't necessarily act as a true indicator of quality (e.g. "American Idol" is incredibly popular, with many, many pollsters)] many Saint Louisans considered their fan base superior. This is first hand experience speaking here - I actually lived in enemy territory for 3+ years (Creve Coeur for a year, and South City for the rest). Believe me, the poll just provided some confirmation for what alot of these folks already believed.

Do you mean that the Cardinal fans convinced the players to vote for them?

Nope.

As I preused some forums last night, some of those "best" fans were laughing and applauding Derrek Lee's injury. Best fans my posterior.

Which boards? If you're fishing for ammo, you're bound to find some if you look hard enough.

It wasn't hard to find. Last night, front page of Cards Talk was as far as I had to go.

Vance, you know as well as I do that fireworks would go off over here from some posters if the same thing happened to Pujols.

As a matter of fact I recall a few people saying Choi's best hit for the Cubs was when he destroyed Rolen's shoulder last year as a Dodger. Comments like that are going to be on EVERY forum.

I hate what happened to Lee. I hope he comes back by tomorrow's game.

You're right. I'm not saying it makes them worse than any fan, but I definitely think it dispels the myth of best fans.

That place makes cubs.com look like a MENSA message board. It's got some good posters, but they're drowned out by the idiots.

I'm sure they sounded a lot like the posts here demanding that Z put a fastball in Furcal's ear the next time they play.

People say stupid things. On forums they say stupid things with little to no recourse.

I'm going to leave this thread because it's silly.
