So its almost 2:00 Pacific time. Anyone know when Wood was supposed to throw for Rothschild?

Also...any reports that he looked back to his 2003 form and is ready to join the rotation would also be greatly appreciated. (Please put any bad news in a different thread...I can't take it at this point)

We need to make him a full-time reliever

Yeah we don't. I want the Starter version back please..

I don't. He's not fit to be a starter, with the voilent motion he has. Either that or use him heavily, f him, and execute the win-win-win-lose plan. Win: We get quality starts from him. Win: We help settle down the fans and take back the city. Win: We prevent Wood from fixing his mechanics and hurting us w/ another team. Lose: Wood is out of a job.

How is he "not fit to be a starter?"

B/c he blows his arm out a month after returning and is back on the DL.

So, he starts= he blows his arm out....if hes a reliever he doesn't?

Don't you think you may be exaggerating just a bit?

I really like the guy, but do you think the Cubs are anywhere close to getting their money's worth out of him?

If Wood isn't a starter to us he's basically worthless. If he comes back and for whatever reason goes back on the DL, he will be as good as gone for next year.

Bad contracts aside, his shoulder is repaired now. There's a 95% success rate over 20 years with surgically repaired labrums, and it happens to a lot more people than just those who throw 95+ for a living. It's understandable to be a bit skeptical, but you should understand the injury and recovery process before jumping to conclusions.

I'll go so far as to say that if he isn't significantly over .500....or alternatively doesn't at least finish the year on a hell of a streak which gets us into the playoffs, where he continues to dominate...then he'll be as good as gone next year.

I hope he does both of htose thing...cause I really like his mound presence and his makeup...now if is right arm would just comply.

Yeah, if he is going to blow his arm out, he's gonna do it either way.

We have him for the rest of this year, and he isn't really needed in the pen, especially at his salary. He should be used where he can help the most. If he is going down, let him go down doing the job he is being paid for.

If I'm not mistaken, Wood had the same surgery Matt Morris did last year, right? He's 2-0 on the year, but anyone know how he's looked and where his velocity is at, etc.

I remember Morris' last year with the Cards and you could tell the pop and velocity wasn't there.

It's not entirely accurate to say that Wood had the same surgery as anyone or to look at anyone to gauge how he should come back. There are varying degrees of damage that are done to the labrum, and the repair isn't necessarily the same for different people.

Having said that, any loss of velocity that Morris may or may not have can likely be contributed to the fact that he's now on the wrong side of 30, and really has been on the decline since that "breakout" season in 2001.

Even if he does well this year I think we should only give him a one year deal or an incentive-laced deal just to be careful.

I do hope he comes back healthy although with his past I'm don't really have any expectations.

The last season Wood was healthy---> 211 IP, 3.20 ERA, 133 ERA+, 1.19 WHIP, 203 BAA.

Yeah, that's not an arm I want in the rotation. I mean, let's keep Glendon "[expletive]" Rusch in the rotation and let Wood throw from the bullpen. I hate using the rolling eyes emoticon, but it is very appropriate here.

Wood, even with his arm troubles, has only once in his career had an ERA+ below 100.

I'm hoping Wood is healthy. He appears to finally be so. His value is as a starter, not a reliever. And when he's starting and healthy, he's as good as any starter we have.
