Is it possible??. Any of you who didn't get a chance to see him today catch the replay he was simply majestic. I can't see a 19-9 season but how about a 17-11 with an era of around 3.75?? would that be acceptable or do we need a magical maddux season to contend??. The way he finishes hitters off after getting ahead is amazing to watch, especially as he rarely hits 89 on the gun!! It would be a fairytale to see greg pitch in the post season for us.

Yes, please.

I think Len said that Barret told him that Maddux's pitches are "stronger and more crisp" Probably credited to his improved physicaly condition. Since every start in preseason, I've grown more optimistic each time that he can put together a good year.

Good deal. I just hope Maddux would be able to continue to sustatin this type of pitching effectiveness throughout the season and hopefully into the playoffs.

I was suprised that he only managed to give up just one run aganist the Red's offense, along with that wind was blowing out. (IF the wind was blowing out. I didn't see if it was or not, but I caught some of the game on the radio, sometime in the 3rd to 4th inning.)

Believe it or not, Maddux is higher on the alltime K list than he is on the wins list, despite only reaching 200 Ks in a season once.

Maddux is so awesome. The real question is...what do we do with him after this year. Hopefully, he'll remain a Cub. Other than Zambrano, he's our most stable presence.

We won't be giving him 9mil that's for sure.

I think it depends on how well we think our young pitchers will do in the majors. If we have faith in Marshall, Guzman, etc. then there is no need to keep Maddux. Also depends on if Prior/Wood/Miller comeback healthy. Maddux would command decent money and if two of the three come back healthy and pitch well that would still leave us with three good pitchers. I don't think we need to pay Maddux a high salary to be a fourth starter.

I do hope he has a good year though. We need him and Z to pitch well early on the keep the team stable.

If I vote for Pedro, maybe Maddux will win 20 games, Another Cy Young, lead us to a World Series victory, and enter the HOF as a Cub.

You bring up an interesting question. If Maddux wins a World Series this year with the Cubs, what cap should he go into the Hall with, a Cubs or Braves? The Cubs fan in me wants to see Maddux wear a Cubs hat but he did have most of his good years with the Braves.

Never underestimate the performance of an athlete in a contract year.

In all seriousness Maddux's value the past two years has been his ability to be an average pitcher that doesn't get injured. I'd love to see him get his ERA back down to the low to mid 3's while still eating up 200 innings. I still don't see any reason for bringing him back next year unless he's willing to take $5M.

Last time we offered him $5 mil per, he walked

Maddux looked real good today, no question. His breaking ball was on.

His sinker and changeup were on. The five breaking balls he threw looked pretty good as well.

I had a flash today when Maddux was walking off the mound one inning of the Cubs winning a world series with him pitching for us.

And I wasn't using any drugs either.

Are you sure about that? I hope you are right though.

Almost without question, Maddux will enter as a Brave. He was the face of that franchise for years, and a 17-11, 3.75 ERA season (what we're hoping for now) would have been a disappointment for him during most of his years there.

I look for a big year from him. The last few years he's struggled the first half of the season but pitched well after the All-Star break. This year he's pitched well from the very beginning. One early gem could have been a fluke, but not two in a row. 16--20 wins, 3.50--3.75 ERA, and a spot on the All-Star team. His off-season workout program seems to have been successful in getting him ready from the beginning.

Maddux has had good results in his first two games, but I still worry that his control isn't what it used to be. Check out his pitch locations in his first two games:

He seems to be leaving an inordinate number of balls out over the middle of the plate. If he keeps doing that I don't think his hearly success will continue.

I could certainly go for a "last hurrah" sort of year out of Maddux.

forget the last hurrah, if he goes anything over 17 wins he should be resigned. He is a born again athlete who actually hired a trainer in the off season. Amazing how those trainers actually work ie: Ken Griffey

If Maddux has a fantastic year and still wants to pitch I would consider bringing him back on a 1 year contract with an option for a second (with a million dollar buyout) or something like that.
