Don't the Dodgers have a plethera of young talent? I would like to see the Cubs take some of it away in order to help the Dodgers fix their pen.

send them novoa or ryu or hill, lets keep williamson.

why do we want to trade williamson now that he has recovered? I'm kind of starting to like this "bullpen doesn't suck" concept.

Seconded, especially while the starting rotation is half-staffed.

With that way the Giants bullpen gave up a 8 run inning to the Braves, I suspect they MAY become more interested in Williamson then the Braves. At least in ATL, they have Joey Devine that THEY might turn to as closer, before they look outside of the org.

The Giants also have Armando Benitez due back from the DL as soon as he's eligible, so I'd imagine they'd wait to begin evaluating their pen until after he's back and throwing in the 9th. The Braves have no such closer waiting in the wings, except for Devine, as you said, but with the way he's pitched so far in the bigs, both in his time last year, and this year, I'd worry about him as a closer.

Good Lord! Today Dusty pulled Z after only 111 pitches because we have a real bullpen now. Let's keep the bullpen intact. We can always trade Hill, Ryu or Marmol if we need a spare part.

It's hard, but I think I can get used to that idea. :D

The starters (waves to Z and Maddux) need to be effective - i.e., fewer pitches and way more innings - or the book will be out on the pen before the ASG.

That Ray kid the Braves have made Barry Bonds look clueless at the plate on 4 pitches also. The Braves don't need to deal with other teams to fill holes, all they need to do is promote someone up from the farm.

31 year old Kenny Ray?

Okay, maybe he is 31. Where did they get him? Triple A?

I've never seen a Cub pitcher dominate Bonds in at bat the way he did the other day. It wasn't just a 4 pitch K. He made him look foolish at the plate. Possibly a fluke, but the real point of my post is that Atlanta's farm system runs deep. If they have a hole to fill, they tend to do it from their farm. Francouer, Langerhans, Betemit, Kelly Johnson, LaRoche, McCann, Devine, Davies, James, etc....

Yeah, their farm system is deep with major league talent. Ray is kind of like Borowski was. He's pitched in about every league there is.

But considering that since Benitez signed with the Giants, he has become "fragile" as a closer. I agree, they will evaluate their club first (possibly bringing up Merkin Valdez up, etc) but it wouldn't surprise me, if the Giants would be interested in Williamson.

Do not trade Williamson, at least until mid-July when teams are desperate for help and will overpay. With Wuertz struggling in ST, I think Williamson is even more valuable to us. We have four reliable relievers in Dempster, Howry, Eyre, and Ohman, I want that fifth guy and Williamson is it.

The guy for us to trade is probably Jerome Williams, if he has any perceived value. Given how Marshall and Guzman looked in ST, and with Miller bound to pitch at some point too, I don't see where there is a spot for Jerome on this team. It's not like we'd be throwing in the towel on the Hawkins trade if we dump Jerome; Aardsma is looking great right now and back to his form of two years ago.

We can dump Jones after June 15th. Think of a trade that helps us get rid of him and let's say, Jerome, for SOMETHING of value in return. I'd settle for a couple decent prospects for the two of the them.

You have never seen a Cubs pitcher dominate Bonds? Ive seen Prior make Bonds look like a fool, struck him out swinging, I believe Kerry has done it as well.

I don't believe I said that. I believe I said I have never seen a pitcher dominate Bonds the way this kid did.

In other words, if I were to rate pitcher dominance of Barry Bonds in a single at bat, the performance the other day by Ray was the single most dominant performance I have ever seen. And yes, I have have seen Wood and Prior dominate Bonds in at bats.
