You won't see Prior until after the all-star break at the earliest. Maybe later.

Ah, hell. I'll join in on the fun, too. Care to wager on that?

I don't wager, ever. Well........I *did* bet on the Marlins on games 6 and 7 and won about 1,500 bucks. Almost never.

It's a feeling, based on past history with how our starter's injuries tend to go.

I don't feel guilty about it, though I understand people's reaction to it.

It was based on a hunch. No, the money didn't help soften the blow. It paid my rent instead

Come on. Nobody else here has ever bet *against* their favorite sports team?

Nope. I've never sold my soul.

If we get within a game again, I'm slapping down money against. I watched the pressure, and all the media B.S. about the curse build & build in 2003, and I just felt it was too tough to cut through.

You'll see all those stupid graphics of billie goats walking across the screen, and all the damn post-game interviews "you thinkin' about the curse yet?!? Huh----yet?!?" You remember how it was....

The way I see it, from a psychological standpoint the Cubs have to win the World Series just to *GET* to the World Series.

I totally get it, but I couldn't do it myself. It's like killing a puppy or beating a baby. You just don't do it.

Betting against the Cubs isn't a bad thing...it's a win-win proposition. You're happy either way. Either you make money, or better yet, they win. You can't lose!

Soul, the fellow Cub fan I watched game 6 and 7 with did the same thing you did and he won a boatload of money. Easy money.

Since I have possibly the worst luck in the world when it comes to winning money, maybe I should start betting against the Cubs . . . they'd almost be assured of winning. I think my money curse is stronger than some stupid goat.

Not betting on your team does not create a conflict of interests.

Betting with people who take bets on your team does, period. Even if he was betting on the Bears, he shouldn't have been gambling. He doesn't have to bet on the Reds one way or the other. Picture this...He loses betting that the Pack would beat the Bears, and he owes...big...he's just put himself in a situation where he's compromised himself, as the bookie could coax him into throwing a game as a means of repayment. Maybe he puts in the wrong reliever with horrible lifetime splits against the other teams best hitter in a tight game, who knows. He never bet on or against his team, but the integrity is gone. When you're a sports manager, you just shouldn't be associating with sports bookies, period.

From what you just wrote, it would seem you have no problem with Rose betting in Vegas. Is that the case?

Why? It's reverse psycholocy on karma!! If the Marlins win atleast you get $1500. If not it's like you PAID $400-$500 for the Cubs to be WORLD SERIES champions!!

If you mean going to a casino and dropping a bill on a three card stud table, then no. I would have a problem with him betting with sports bookies, legal or not.

Here's the thing...if you have never bet against your team because you're NOT a betting man that's fine. If you DO bet and haven't bet against your team, then you are just plain ignorant.

jigman21....you fall into this category. Never picking against the Bears in a pool? I understand you like them, but please. That's not a fan, that's just ridiculous. You should really quit wagering money.

Why, there is no risk of getting down money to a Vegas sports book. You lay the money in advance.
