...if at all. Levine says that in spite of the fact that Hendry will be extended(which he says will be announced tomorrow afternoon), they want to see results on the field.

Also notes that they are happy with his (Dusty's) focus and approach this year, and that Lee will be extended soon for more than Konerko got.

Smart move by Jim, if true.

Levine is not the most reliable source, but if true, I think that means unless the Cubs get to or win the World Series we will be seeing a new manager on the northside.

Let the speculation begin.

Don't know how much stock I put in what Levine has to say, but if true this is a very good move by Hendry. I think it's a lock that Hendry offers Dusty an extension if the Cubs have a good year this season, but I have my doubts about Dusty accepting the extension. Either way I'm hoping we have a new manager for the 2007 season.

If this is true, I highly doubt the criteria will be get to or win world series. I bet the playoffs will be more than enough.

So you think it will take more than an 82-80 finish? I'd like to know exactly what "results" JH wants to see.

Just my two cents, but I'd bet they have to make the playoffs, because if they don't, this will be far too hostile environment for Dusty to function in.

I wish they waited and did the same thing with Hendry.

Not me, I'm glad they are extended Hendry now.

I'm curious why? Were you fearful that he would go somewhere else? Did you think he was would highly sought after by a team that could and would outspend the Cubs? Do you think he's irreplacable?

if dusty's gone, I'd say the only coaches safe would be Spier and maybe Rothschild.

(which is good btw, except I'd probably want ol' Larry gone too.)

Is Speier really good, or was Wavin' Wendell so bad that anyone would look good there now? Not detracting, just curious.

I'd rather just let Lou pick his own staff.

I'd rather keep Dusty than have Piniella managing the team.

You can't be serious.

If you think Dusty has a veteran fetish...

What about A-Rod, Unit and Junior?

I can't imagine any of them being good managers.

I'm just saying I can't remember any young players he had that were good that he didn't play.
