One of the least likely things to occur in MLB is a prospect for prospect trade. The higher rated the prospects are, the more unlikely it is to occur.

I agree, nobody wants to admit that their top prospect isn't as good as someone else's. Using the Cubs as an example, all we heard was that Pie is the face of the future for the Cubs and now we're going to trade him for another prospect. I would think any major league team would only trade their top prospect for an established major league star.

This trade might provoke Hendry into doing something stupid like giving Pierre a huge deal, which is NOT what I want. We're already stuck with one overrated overpaid OF for the next 3 years.

I don't think I'd put much stock into it. The trade makes sense for the Angels, but not really for us. We're not overloaded with top OF prospects like they are IF prospects. I wouldn't ever put any creedence into any rumor broke by cubs.com's message board. As a matter of fact, that probably guarantees that it won't happen.

Inside word out of Arizona is that the Cubs and the Angel's are looking to swap top prospects.

The Angel's farm system is lacking in OF talent but are logged jammed in the IF. The Cubs seem to have a well stock farm but lack any power hiting IF. The trade seems like it could both clubs, Felix Pie is expected to be traded some time this week for Howie Kendrick.

Additional reporting by Matt Marrone

I picked this tidbit off on cubs.com---I know, I know, but---and I don't know how credibility is it, but....I think it should be interesting debate. Would anybody here at least consider a Felix Pie for Howie Kendrick trade?

Is this the exact quote of an AP news release? I can't believe this to be real as the spelling and grammar are horrible. I'm betting this to be a fake.

I'll go out on a limb and say the poster is actually named Matt Marrone...

I wouldn't do it.

5 tool center fielders are in less supply than 2baseman. It's much easier to find a productive 2nd baseman than CF. Heck, the Cubs have two right now.

Pie is special.

yeah remember the last CF that was a "5 tool player" and that was "special?" Yeah I figued someone was going to say it in this thread, so it might have well been me

I'd do this trade right away especially if we can lock up Pierre long term.

I don't see the point of using previous failures as a reason to say a current prospect will not succeed.

i think there's plenty of reason to use previous failure. the cubs show little aptitude in developing position players to play in the major leagues.

I can't believe anyone wants to trade Pie for a guy who's best projections are comparable to Brian Roberts, Marcus Giles and Mark Ellis. Don't get me wrong, they're all very good in their own right, but we better be getting the next Chase friggin' Utley if we're exchanging him for another prospect. For as deep as the league has become at that position, he looks pretty basic, even with that batting average - maxed out as high as AA by age 23 I might add.

Now I realize it's all bogus, but the fact that half of the posters in this thread were ready to pull that trigger makes me wonder. Don't you think we could do better than that? Let's not forget Pie is a plus fielder with a plus arm and hits for mild power and can be a factor on the basepaths. We can compare him to Patterson all day long. Patterson throws like a girl and didn't have good fielding instincts. By all accounts, Pie makes reads on the ball on a major league level and has done so for a few years. If you want a great young second basemen prospect that badly - consider playing Pie at second base.

While that is true, each player is still different from the previous and might have a better ability to make up for deficiencies that other players could not.

Look as I said in the first post, I didn't know how credible it was, and apparently it is as truthful as a Democrat, but I thought it would make for an interesting topic. So...WHICH prospect would you trade Pie for, specifically?

I know I heard Brandon Wood. I would go...

5: Butler, Billy

4: Upton, Justin

3: Diamond, Thomas

2: Wood, Brandon

1: Young, Delmon

Those would be the ONLY prospects I would trade Pie for...so who would you trade Pie for?

I'd go for Danks over Diamond. Might be just a personal thing...I don't know.

I dont know if you still count Liriano as a prospect cause he played some last year and will play in the majors this year but I would trade Pie for him, and probably Lastings Milledge as well.

I don't think I would take Billy Butler for Pie...

Now if they were offering Alex Gordon, that might be another matter entirely.
