The least shocking news of the day:

 

AP[/url]"]FORT MYERS, Fla. - Boston reliever Julian Tavarez punched Tampa Bay's Joey Gathright on Monday, and both were ejected after a brawl that began with a close play at home plate.

 

Gathright was sliding into home in the eighth inning when he was tagged out by the often-hot tempered Tavarez, who stepped on the outfielder's right arm. Gathright, still on the ground, then used his left forearm to push Tavarez's left knee.

 

Before Gathright got up, Tavarez struck a blow in the area of Gathright's left jaw, and players flocked in from the benches and bullpens. No other players appeared to throw punches, and order was restored after a few minutes.

Tavarez is also one of the most insane individuals ever to play the game. At least Zambrano has something of a limit to his anger; otherwise, Todd Walker would have been decapitated about seven or eight times by now...

Watching Tavarez dance in left field during batting practice for 20 minutes while ignoring the fly balls he was supposed to be shagging and the fans (not related to the fly balls thing) cemented it for me.

I find it absolutely astounding that Tavarez can be the worst citizen in baseball for his entire career, hurling biggoted epithets, punching guys, refusing to hustle, you name it....

 

 

 

......yet when he was with St. Louis he was a model citizen. Everything was just great.

Actually his act got pretty old in STL. He was a complete jerk in the 04 playoffs.
