How could Clemens say no to this face?

haha i know i couldn't.

But honestly i'm torn about whether I'd want Clemens on the Cubs. Oh I know he could really help the team. I've never admired him though. Perhaps it's unjustified, but he's always been one of my least favorite players. I view him kind of like I view Barry. Am I foolish for seeing it that way?

You're comparing Clemens to Bonds?

I wouldn't call you foolish, just biased. Maybe a little bitter, too.

Oh, it's nothing to do with jealousy. And it certainly has nothing to do with him being an Astro. I'd take Oswalt on my team in a heartbeat, and I'm excited that Willer is a Cub. I honestly couldn't care less about the Stros. The Mets and the Cards on the other hand...

I'm just under the assumption that Clemens, like Bonds, has been so successful this late into his career b/c of steroids. Clemens always comes across to me as highly arrogant, self-possessed, and a mean-spirited person. For this reason, I'd rather see him sign elsewhere over the Cubs, even if its with the Astros. When the Cubs win, I want them to be a team that I actually want to win.

I don't like Clemens either, and I will always think of Clemens as a Red Sox and Yankee, not an Astro. I have never liked him because he seems arrogant and overbearing. The fact he is/was an Astro is nothing but an afterthought. In fact Clemens and the Astros management deserve each other, IMO.

I would take him on the team, though I wouldn't pay him near what Houston paid him last year.

Well, if we're keeping score, I loathe Clemens (but would take him on the Cubs).

And, Barrett is da man!

I know what you mean, but with a century-old drought, you don't have the luxury of picking your heroes.

OTOH, I wouldn't mind seeing Clemens come over for a year to school our china horses on getting and staying in shape, including a few choice words about them not acting like pantywastes at the slightest twinge. When you're in the "show", you need to know your body so that you feel the difference between injured and hurt... and maybe settle for hurt when you're healing, rather than no pain at all.

We can get the WS AFTER he leaves... and takes Dusty with him. :-)

Oh, yeah, and I like Barrett too. Chalk that one up as one of Jim Hendry's best moves, one that he rarely gets credit for here.

And to think when Hendry was pursuing Barrett, many people were against the move bringing him here.

At least on the ESPN boards, they were.

The ESPN boards. Good days... You think davemason2k is in prison?

If he ever grows his hair back, he'll be cute again.

But now that he's an Ultimate Fighter, I dunno if that'll happen.

If he got a mohawk and goatee he would look a little like Chuck Liddel

Off topic: how can shrink my new avatar??? I got the pic off the Web - Google images: Mike Royko

I thought of putting the pic w/my sig, but I didn't want people to think Royco said that bit about WWE. He was far witter than I am. :-)

Did you say that about Nolan Ryan too?

All I know is that I am pretty sick of hearing is this going to be Clemens last game ever everytime he pitches. To me it is just as obvious that he is on steroids as Bonds but somehow never gets called out on it. Boston didnt let him go b/c he was winning 20 games with a ERA under 3. He just wasnt very good anymore when they let him go, than bam after 3 mediocre years he is a Cy Young award winner and great starter again in his mid 30s to mid 40s. Come on ESPN you guys missed the obvious boat back in 98 dont miss it again.

I thought it was Uncle Junior.

And I'm sick of hearing about Clemens and Bonds. I hope MLB investigates the steroid thing and we get to see some baseball and not get this junk thrown down our throats.

Maybe going to the National League has something to do with it.

Clemens' resurgence occurred well before he came to the NL. I'm not trying to insinuate anything, but I don't think coming to the NL had anything to do with anything.

Go into paintbrush or photoshop, resize it, save it, and then reload it.

Thanks - in the meantime, I'm going back to my old avatar.

No. Clemens is just filthy. Unlike Bonds, he gets tested.

While we're dreaming, I'll tell you what might make sense. We need a guy to get us through April as a bridge to Prior, Wood and/or Miller's return. Clemens is in baseball shape now, but can't decide whether he wants to pitch or retire. He also can't pitch for his hometown Astros until May if he does continue to pitch. Maybe we could convince Clemens to come to the Cubs through mid-May. At that point, he can decide to retire, continue playing for the Cubs, or if he finds the travel schedule playing for the Cubs so onerous, he could even return to the Astros then. We get what we want out of him and he gets a chance to stay in baseball shape while he continues mulling over what he wants to do with his career.

Is there some rule that says a guy can't sign a 30-60 day contract?

Very creative idea however unlikely it is. I think the best way to go about doing your plan would to sign him to a major league min. contract with a signing bonus (that would be his real salary) and then giving him his unconditional release whenever he wants to go.

how about 1 year 15 million plus we buy him a stupid private jet so he can fly back to texas whenever he wants

How about we trade Perez for Clemens' son, it would probably improve our offense too.
