How does someone that young have a fatal stroke? I know he had let himself go somewhat, but 45 is awfully young for this.

Somewhat?

Yikes. He was in a lot worse shape than I thought.

Not unheard of. I burried a cousin at 36 after she had a stroke. It may not even have to do with letting himself go. It could be the same thing that cause the glacumoa(sp?).

He gawn.

Reguardless of what you thought of the man, that may be the tackiest thing that's ever been posted on this board.

Yes, I agree, that is pretty classless.

Insensitive, yes. Classless, yes. I just don't see the point in waxing poetic and fawning over the death of someone who if he wasn't a millionaire would be in jail. Why honor a man who cheats on and assaulted his wife and openly got away with both.

I take it you have no problem with marijuana possession then? after all, if you did, then Darryl Kile is fair game, right?

I believe I have heard you rant many times about any mention of Darryl Kile's death. I also believe I have heard you rant many times that McGwire is innocent until proven guilty of bad things. put the two situations together in one man, and this is how you act?

noone is expecting you to wax poetic, but you are doing just the opposite. you are insulting and disrespectful about the death of a man who brought joy to millions. if you had a problem with Puckett and the allegations laid against him, that's fine. but if ever there was a time to shut your cakehole about it, that time is now.

I think you have Wolf confused with someone else.

If I did, I apologize for unfounded allegations, but the cakehole thing still applies.

eh, thousands of better people die everyday without us shedding any tears, why should we worry about a jackass like puckett?

He's a human being. Everyone has someone who laments their passing. If not for the deceased, feel sorry for the loved ones who are mourning his passing.

Do you know Kirby Puckett? No. Don't be a jackass just b/c of some allegations or rumors.

Why should I mourn a guy who

A: I don't even know

and

B: Is a criminal who beats and sexually assaults women?

That's your prerogative and you don't have to mourn. You also don't have to post this freaking crap in this thread.

RIP Kirby.

I don't think its fair to compare someone possessing marijuana to someone beating a woman.

Has anyone ever had one of those "coinicdence" moments??

I had one back in '89. For whatever reason in early October I was talking to someone at school and for whatever reason I shouted "I hate San Fransisco!!" (I was in 2nd Grade and a weird kid). The next day the earthquake happened.

Saturday, for whatever reason, I was thinking about Kirby Puckett. I even sang "Kirbyyyyyyyyy.... Kirby Puckett" (to the tune of "Davy Crockett). The next day he had his stroke, and today he died.

That is kinda scary.

me neither to be honest. however, allegations by a jilted ex-wife and charges for which he was acquited v. known possession and use of marijuana as a matter of fact....now we're talking a comparison in alot of people's eyes (kick in the rumors of steroids and amphetamines and the scales tip even further). and again I wan in the frame of mind where I thought wolf was being hypocritical, an allegation which may or may not have a foundation.

I personally have little problem with marijuana possession. however, I do have a big problem with partner abuse and sexual assault. I also have a big problem with callousness about the death of a person alot of people consider a hero. after the hubbub about his death, feel free to come on and argue your point about Puckett. a couple hours after his death saying "he gawn?" that's plain wrong.

Could the really bad beaning he took from Dennis Martinez late in his career have had anything to do with this stroke?

Doubtful. Kirby put on a ton of weight after he had to retire.

Indeed he does. That doesn't mean he is entirely wrong. Darryl Kile never beat or sexually assaulted a woman. If he had a little pot on him when he died than that was his choice and I find a huge difference between Darryl and Morris getting high in their hotel room and Kirby Puckett putting his wife in the hospital and drunkenly sexually assaulting multiple women. Call me crazy, but I see a difference in the two situations. Believe me when I say this. If Albert Pujols were to do the things Kirby has done, I would feel the exact same way. Just because somebody is dead doesn't mean he all of a sudden gets a pass on being a douche.

I find people calling athletes heroic based solely on their athletic accomplishments questionable to begin with.

Thanks for jinxing my fantasy team and my favorite MLB team jerk! if you had a problem with Edmonds and the allegations laid against him, that's fine. but if ever there was a time to shut your cakehole about it, that time is now.

like I said above, I think he gets a pass for a little while. at least until he's in the ground. I think you would expect that after you die even from of the people that think you're a douche.

my error is duly noted.

Honestly no. People are free to express whatever opinion they have of me. I could care less.

Somewhat off-topic: I believe I remember hearing that there is a way to ignore all posts by a person on this board, is this correct?

Maybe its just "good ole day syndrome" but as a 30 year old, I'm starting to look back with a new appreciation towards the baseball players I grew up with when I was a young kid playing little league and high school ball. I think the baseball historians are going to look back at the pre steroid late-80's and early 90's as a very good age for baseball in the character of the players and the way they played the game. Kirby. Sandberg. Larkin. Ripken. Orel. Mattingly. Ozzie. Molitor. Joe Carter. Yount. Winfield. Brett. Gwyen. We had our Rickey's and Dwights and Strawberrys too, but by and large the era produced a rather likable group of stars. Yeah, I know, some of these guys were overrated and overhyped by the media ... every generation has had them, but they weren't a bad group of guys to be the face of the sport.
