He gawn.

Reguardless of what you thought of the man, that may be the tackiest thing that's ever been posted on this board.

Yes, I agree, that is pretty classless.

He played the game the way it was meant to be played.

I only read the Sports Illustrated article years ago that revealed his darker side, but as a kid he was one guy I always wanted on the Cubs.

I'm shocked to see he died. It must have been a very serious stroke. My prayers and thoughts to the Pucket family and friends as well as the Minnesota Twins organization and fans and baseball fans in general who will miss him.

Insensitive, yes. Classless, yes. I just don't see the point in waxing poetic and fawning over the death of someone who if he wasn't a millionaire would be in jail. Why honor a man who cheats on and assaulted his wife and openly got away with both.

Maybe not wax and fawn, but with very few exceptions the death of anyone should be a time for mourning and reflection. In Kirby's case, he was a terrific baseball player with a troubled personal life. Both sides of him should be remembered for what they were.

My curiousity got the best out of me, so I looked up Kirby's career stats, and I was impressed by the numbers.

.318 AVG .360 OBP% .477 SLG .837 OPS

What caught my eye was that during Kirby's 11 years as a MLB player, he never struck out 100 or more times in a single season. That's pretty impressive, in my opinion.

Why should I mourn a guy who

A: I don't even know

and

B: Is a criminal who beats and sexually assaults women?

Are those reasons together (like he did this AND this, so I shouldn't mourn him) or are they exclusive?

Just two reasons and not exclusive. I didn't know the Pope but I mourned and reflected for him.

Fair enough.

Him and Tony Gwynn were the type of hitters I tried to be like in Little League, and when I was a young idiot I thought my major league numbers would look a lot like those 2.

What did your ML numbers end up looking like?

Haha, me too. More Gwynn than Puckett, though. I was a bigger guy, stockier (as opposed to the tub I am now) and hit mainly singles and doubles. I had 1 homer my entire little league career. Should have been two, but oh well.

i'm more of a defensive specialist, so i've never seen a major league at bat

Don't feel like it's the world against you. I'm with you, entirely.

eh, thousands of better people die everyday without us shedding any tears, why should we worry about a jackass like puckett?

Wow. Just got home to hear the news.

I loved the way he played the game.

I didn't know him or what kind of person he was, but I know that he was a player I enjoyed to watch in a game that I love.

How does someone that young have a fatal stroke? I know he had let himself go somewhat, but 45 is awfully young for this.

Somewhat?
