"He's an idiot. He's selfish. That's why we don't miss him," Williams said, responding to a Thomas interview that appeared in The Daily Southtown, a newspaper in the Chicago suburb of Tinley Park, Ill.

Fun times. First Ozzie callling Arod a hypocrite and now Williams calling the Big Hurt an idiot.

When will these guys learn to say, "no comment"?

When a guy Frank's size with a chronic lower leg problem slams the Sox for not picking up a $9m option on him I would refer to him as an idiot aswell. Many pretended last season that all of Frank's problems with the ballclub never even happened.

I'm just curious, do the Sox ever do any wrong in your eyes?

There is no denying that Frank Thomas is an idiot, but Jesus Christ, do Ozzie Guillen or Kenny Williams ever just keep their mouths shut? Is it really necessary to come out and say that? Boy, I hope these clowns come crashing down to earth this year, I don't think I can take another year of this.

That's my point. Sometimes is's just best to respond with a "no comment."

Yes, but Frank is remembered by many Sox fans not for how great he was in the mid 90's, but for how he constantly lashed out and even walked out of spring training. Of course it would have been better to say no comment, but if you read the entire article he explains that it has bothered him long enough.

p.s. Some things they did wrong: Not trading Contreras (yet), including Gio in the Thome deal, getting rid of Marte without getting a lefty with as much upside.

Do they ever do anything right in your eyes?

Irrelevant considering I'm not on a Sox board posting almost exclusively about the Cubs (I'd probably be banned), though to answer your question, winning the WS was kinda nice for them.

LMAO, what's even better is that Williams told Ozzie to shut his hole after the Nomar/ARod rant b/c stuff like that gave the organization a bad name. Hypocrite.

I can't believe none of you guys think Thomas should shut up. He's been running to anyone with a microphone. If anything, they should all pipe down, but it seems pretty clear that Thomas got all of this started.

I can't even imagine Hendry (or any other GM, for that matter) calling a player an idiot.

Williams just reeks of class, doesn't he?

I think Frank's problem was more with how (via voice message) the organization went about notifying him of thier decision to buy out his contract. He seems hurt that Jerry Reinsdorf didn't take the time to call him personally, which seems like somehwhat reasonable after 16 years of service.

Welcome JimBouton!

It's interesting to note that Kenny Williams has led his team to as many playoff berths as Jim Hendry has as GM, but in two more seasons, and while Williams is being lauded, many of the people here want Hendry's head. Obviously, the teams' respective results in those playoffs as well as results in non-playoff years are factors in our opinions, but it's an interesting footnote to all of this.

I'm really hoping the Sox players all come back to earth, and in a big way, this year. This "a World Series trophy gives us a license to run our mouth" thing is becoming really annoying.

We've grown accustomed to players doing this. GM's should be above it all. Remember when Grudzielanek cried collusion or Moises was upset at how Hendry handled not re-signing him. Players whining like this happens all the time, but you didn't see Hendry calling these guys idiots.

I distinctly remember Wagner calling out Hunsicker in Houston. You didn't see Hunsicker call Wagner an uneducated hick. GM's have to be above this. It's called professionalism.

I think the White Sox organization protected Thomas for so long - in regards to his selfishness and attitude which have long been in question - that the Sox felt Thomas at least should feel some debt to the Sox organization. Unfortunately, not only does Thomas not feel indebted, the Big Hurt still thinks the Sox should have showed him some more respect as they were kicking him to the curb. Seeing how this relationship has played out during the Williams-era, it really does not surprise me that Williams took the first available opportunity to lash out at Thomas.

Right now, I'm happy to hear any news that'll make headlines on the Chicago sports pages that does not involve any Cubs' pitchers' health :D

Ozzie should call him on being a hypocrite. Otherwise he's a hypocrite for not speaking out in public about people being hypocrites.

Both guys, Frank and Kenny, are idiots. Everyone saw Frank for what he was...an ego-driven malcontent trying to make one last sad run on another team, spouting off about his former team. Kenny didn't need to say anything, and he would have been far more respected for it. Winning is the best way the Sox could have responded. I'm sure everything Kenny said was right...it just shouldn't have been said, especially not to the media.

And I agree. But for how long should the Sox remain mum while Thomas bad-mouths them to anyone he can find? He has been doing this since the parade ended - its not like this was the first time. By my count, he has made incindiary statements on no less than 3 occassions, and I am probably missing something.

Wouldn't you agree that the Sox have the right to stand up for themselves? Or should they just crawl into the fetal position?

I see what you're saying, but there's definitely a point somewhere between simply taking abuse and "He's an idiot. He's selfish. That's why we don't miss him,"

A fair point. I agree. Williams could have been more general and professional in his statements.

I definitely agree with you. The White Sox have placed either first or second in the AL Central every year since 1996 except for one, although a large part of that has been the relative weakness of the division during those years (the Sox won 52% of their regular season games during that span). If the Cubs won a World Series, I'd imagine that Hendry would get a decent helping of praise in the baseball press, similar to what Williams has gotten.

My favorite part of the whole Thomas ordeal is that he was unhappy that he was unhappy that he had a diminished skills clause in his contract. Thomas read the contract, signed it, and then complained about its contents.

Didn't Williams have some not-so-kind words about Magglio Ordonez when he left last offseason? There seems to be a trend here with the Sox management trashing star players who go to other teams.
