The Angels and Jeff Weaver have agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth about $8.5 million, according to the Los Angeles Times.

A great deal for the Angels. Weaver is as good of a bet as Jarrod Washburn for 2006 and he doesn't require the ridiculous four-year commitment. This puts Hector Carrasco in the bullpen where he belongs. Barring injury, Joe Saunders and Jered Weaver will begin the season in the minors. Feb. 15 - 1:35 pm et

It's a good deal for the Angels and it really makes Weaver look stupid for rejecting the Dodgers offer of arbitration. Had he accepted, he would have made more than 8.5 in a one year deal with the Dodgers.

Maybe he wanted to be on a better team.

I think it was that he was looking for a 5 year deal at roughly 9 million a season that never arrived.

 Weaver must have started on the sauce when Ponson got off.

I guess there's balance in life after all.

Good deal for Weaver too. I think he could have gotten a little more by accepting the arbitration from LA, but he did well by NOT taking a 2-year deal. That would have been pointless and postponed what he hopes will be a big payday by another year.

Maybe the other side of LA can give him an Extreme Makeover.

I fail to see how that guy is worh 8.5 million dollars. I wouldn't give him half of that.

I would have rather had his 1 year deal than Rusch's 2 year deal.

Not me.

Yes me. Cause Weaver's deal is one yr, and his deal is off the books after the season. Weaver would pitch just solid enough to fetch a pick or two (because Weaver won't aceept arb)when he signs elsewhere. Whereas, Rusch wouldn't fetch the Cubs 2 bits on the dollar for his services.

I agree, but that's mostly b/c I think Rusch is worthless. :D

Weaver signed w/ a much better team & iirc his brother got drafted by Anaheim last year and could be up w/ the big club soon.

Nothing like blocking your own brother from a major league job. :thumright:
