IMO, that's exactly why we should trade for him.

PS. What do you change your name to if the Cardinals get him?

VerySadCubFan?

I don't know, but let's not think about it. Ostrich syndrome, you know?

I did a quick calculation and figure Dunn's OPS to be somewhere in the neighborhood of .850 against non-Cubs pitching.

I got .376/.490 for a .866 OPS. He has a 1.034 SLG against us, jeebers.

my calculation was before the Houston series. your's was after the second game of the Houston series. after his 0-5 yesterday, he's back down to .850ish against non-Cubs pitching.

Da great and powerful Dunn gives and takes away. This night he has chosen to take away, but through it I have become a stronger, wiser, and better person for having tasted the sting of his wrath.

2 run blast in the 7th.

He didn't get a full swing on it yet there was never any doubt the ball was gone to center field.

I know it's been said before, but that is the worst thread in the history of message boards. I'm still reeling how he praised Griffey for getting an out than ripped Dunn for hitting a HR because it wasn't in a crucial situation.

Reds down 9-2 in the bottom of the 8th. Griff doesn't play the game in a vacuum. Griff has his mind on the big picture every at bat. Griff has his baseball IQ turned on all the time. Griff swings at first pitch and flies out. Oh well.... live to play another day...........

Then we have the great adam dunn. Dunn goes up and "works" the pitcher to a 3-1 count. Up 9-2 in bottom of 8th pretty much the only thing pitcher doesn't want to do is start giving up walks.... so he grooves a fastball. Dunn (what a hitter !!) grips and rips and hits his 13th SOLO homer of the year.

I mean....

I don't know. I have no words.

The first half sounds like Dusty. The latter sounds like a bumbling [expletive].

it ain't much better in the daytion daily news. here's a snippet from the "ask hal" section of today's sports page.

Q Have you ever heard (hitting coach) Chris Chambliss talk about making Adam Dunn's swing a little more compact? There are many good hitters who hit with power with compact swings. Dunn is strong enough to still produce home runs, and 380-foot home runs count the same as 450-foot home runs. — Bruce, Waynesville

A Reconfiguring a swing at this point in Dunn's career probably would do more harm than good. He has worked more lately at hitting the ball to all fields instead of driving it into the teeth of that exaggerated shift. Hey, as long as the Reds continue to win, it's still fun to watch Dunn hit baseballs into the Ohio River.

Q Why not move Adam Dunn to eighth in the batting order? If he hits a home run, we'll be getting bonus runs from the bottom of the lineup. If he walks, which he does a lot, the pitchers can bunt him over, and somebody at the top of the order can drive him in since we all know Dunn doesn't drive anybody else in. — Collin, Columbus, Ind.

A This is "Bash Adam Dunn Week." That's about the same reasoning former manager Bob Boone had for considering Dunn as the leadoff hitter. A home run would be a bonus. He walks a lot and gets on base. But manager Jerry Narron would like to last longer than Boone did. And what's wrong with the run production with Brandon Phillips and David Ross at the bottom?

DON'T WORRY GUYS I SENT A RETRACTION EMAIL TO HAL SO WE'LL SEE IF HE PRINTS IT NEXT WEEK

I never realized how stupid and unappreciative Reds fans were. Too bad one of them isn't GM, we could probably pull off a Neifi for Dunn deal. Afterall, Neifi doesn't do stupid things like take walks and hit solo Home Runs.

I wouldn't generalize Reds fans based on the team's mlb.com messageboards. The Cubs ones have just as many stupid posts and posters.

LOL...I just now read that reds forum link...hilarious stuff...Dunn is a bum for picking his pitches and hitting a homer...oh the horror!! How do the Reds live with such ineptitude!

Its like...we are living in some fantasy world.

We (cubs fans) would kill to have these type of players on our team, and are probably overly appreciative of them.

They (reds fans) are complete morons and don't know what they want at all.

God I want to kill somebody.

And for that matter, how is Dunn still the best kept secret in the Major Leagues? It still seems like no one values how....VALUABLE this guy is. He gets on base 40% of the time, and hits balls really really far.

Why is this hard to understand?

Because he strikes out a lot and only hits meaningless HRs! Duh..

Stupid Adam Dunn cost the Reds a win yesterday by going 2-4 with a SOLO HR. The hall of famer Griffey did everything he could by going 0-4 but it just wasn't enough.

I like Adam Dunn as much as the next guy, but aren't there other good young players who are much more worthy of having a chubb over? Like Hafner or Bay or Cabrera?

If I were to make a list, those 2 would be very near the top.

Those guys are pretty much universally valued. How much you value Dunn is indicative of what side you fall on in the SABR vs. traditional stats argument.

You're not going to find many people who think Hafner, Bay, or Cabrera are anything short of very good, yet there are no shortage of Dunn haters.
