Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate them. Now it's up to the fans. I'm sure they'll come with very pointed questions this weekend. Good point by Goony on following up the Wood "answer," (an answer based on answers the Cubs have given me on the topic). We'll see what the people come armed with this weekend.

Got to head over and meet with the manager and see the players.

please ask OBP-related questions Bruce.

If Zambrano is there (I'm unaware of who'll be attending) can you give us an update on his conditioning? I believe one of his goals was to be in better shape for next year.

I'm interested in knowing if those questions are screened. I've never been so I'm not familiar with the proceedure they use. If they are, most of those questions I'm sure won't be asked. Anybody know?

Questions are not screened. People line up at microphones and wait their turns.

No, they're not screened. You just get in line and ask away.

I hadn't thought about it until just now, but this is actually very important that Dusty gets grilled at the Convention. He is incredibly fragile, and if he is grilled relentlessly by the fans, he might just not want to come back next year. Please Cubs convention goers, for the good of the franchise, BE BRUTAL!!

Okay. Thanks, Bruce (and Jon). It will certainly be interesting to see what is asked. I hope someone in attendance can give us a nice summary. I'm particularly interested in the MI situation and what they have to say about Wood's use last year.

Instead of seeing questions about this year's team, which I think Dusty would be able to avoid much more easily, I'd love to see someone ask him why Neifi Perez got 382 ABs in the one and two hole last season while putting up a sub-.300 OBP (and a mind-numbingly horrible .263 OBP in the leadoff spot). And then, as a follow up question, ask him if Derrek Lee minded getting robbed of RBI opportunities because of that.

Of course, getting up early in the morning to head downtown isn't going to appeal to too many fans who are fed up with the front office and coaching staff.

Anyone who is going -- get up there early, because they usually run out of time.

Bruce you make me happier as each week passes. Not only do you question the abysmal management of our Beloved cubs but you do it with facts and maturity instead of the mouthy gobshite approach of other chicago jounos (Jay, Rogers thats you by the way) Bravo Bruce!!!

i'm just envisioning a bunch of people getting up there and asking dusty why he doesn't bunt, hit-and-run, and "shake things up" more.

"could everyone who has a question related to why the cubs don't play more small ball sit down, please?"

that would probably make the line a lot smaller.

I also envision quite a few asking why Ronny would be considered for the SS job since Neifi did so well for us last year.

Yeah, I'm not envisioning anything be addressed that I want to be addressed. It's not like you can sit down and have a back and forth conversation where you can more or less call them out on their BS.

ideally you would get about 4 or 5 of us to go together and stand in line armed with an original question and 4 follow ups. that way they couldn't dodge it.

I would get together this year and do it with some of the guys who are going, but I can't get my hands on a pass.

I am a huge Cubs fan who spends an inordinate amount of time and a good chunk of change every year to see them play on TV, as well as in person, in Chicago and several road cities (but to be fair, when I see them in NY it's free 95% of the time - and better seats).

But I have never once had any interest whatsoever in going to the convention.

It seems to me to be a celebration of 100 years of failure (or at least the past 40-50 of those years of failure) with no real information coming from the team or serious discussion on what can be done to improve the team. It's a giant PR event.

my brother had two, but his fiance, who doesn't know anything about the cubs, insisted on using the other pass, what a freaking waste.

I hope I'm wrong, but I expect similar style questions this weekend as was the case at last year's convention. There may be a few people who ask tough questions, but for the most part I think Hendry and Baker will have relatively easy questions. Like Goony, I've never had any desire to attend the Cubs Convention.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I love the Cubs (like we all do). I'd have to love them to be willing to put up with the verbal thrashing I get on occasion from my new wife for the time spent watching them, and then on this site following them.

I would only go to that convention to ask a tough question, or be part of a group of tough questions. I want to hear answers to questions that absolutely baffle me. I want accountability. I have no use for autographs, or any of that other junk. I want a winner, and won't celebrate a century of losing.

I'd bet any tough question will be given a bs answer. I wouldn't doubt if they've gone through a run- through of every possible question and what response should be given. After all, it's hard for me to believe that even with a tough weekend of questions those two bullheaded men would change their philosophies.
