Here are the statistics of 6 actual pitchers with very comprable statistics. 3 of them are in the HOF and 3 are not. Your job is to pick based on their statistics, who deserves the Hall of Fame and who doesn't. Try not to look up who these pitchers are before you rank them; if you recognize their statistics try not to let your previous biases figure into your decision.

Well, if I can only pick three...

Player F gets the first nod. Very good K:BB ratio and a high ERA+ along with what looks like the best WHIP on the list.

Player A would probably be get my next vote for the same reasons listed above.

My final vote is between B, C, and D. Looks like player D has the best WHIP, ERA+ and K:BB ratio among the three, so I'll go with him.

So I'd say F, A, and D.

Player C seems to have had a pretty long and slightly above average career. I would pick this player for consistency purposes I think. Also player A and F are locks.

And my favorite pitcher of all time (not that I'm trying to bias anyone!)

Apparently not for the voters.

BTW - in the vein of the best pitcher of all time argument...

If durability is ignored, it pretty much has to be Pedro Martinez. Check out the all time best ERA+ ratings (ERA adjusted for park and league averages) from #40 up through #2 and notice how tightly grouped everyone is as you move up the chain:

#40 - #30: 128, 128, 129, 129, 130, 130, 130, 130, 130, 131

#30 - #20: 132, 132, 132, 132, 132, 133, 134, 134, 135, 135

#20 - #10: 136, 136, 137, 138, 138, 138, 139, 142, 142, 142

#10 - #2: 143, 143, 145, 146, 146, 146, 146, 148

Obviously, I'm positioning Pedro to be #1. But it isn't so much the fact that he's #1. It's that the gap between him and #2 is almost as big as the gap between #2 and #40.

Pedro's at 166.

Taking the era he pitched in into account? Yes. Gotta take the big train over the rocket based on stats alone, though.
