Dan Conley from the Baltimore Sun is on WGN's Sports Central right now. He's telling Kaplan that (he believes that) the Orioles believe that the best fit they have for a trade, is with the Cubs--because the Cubs have the most talent to offer. For Conley, he thinks that the Orioles will trade Miggy to the National League, either the Phillies or the Cubs.

Kaplan also told Conley and the listeners that two more teams have entered the mix for Patterson, so it's not a done deal he's headed for Baltimore.

I also found it interesting that a caller called in before Dan Conley came on the air, and Kaplan told this caller that Hendry has been doing everything he could to find the right fit for Corey and the Cubs, but nobody is biting. Kaplan feels it would be in Patterson's best interest to move on to somewhere else, because he was the subject of boo-birds and some much fan ridicule. Kaplan also said that if Manny was headed to the Mets, then Cliff Floyd would be headed to the Cubs.

we have two of the most promising position prospects that actually performed on their first sniff of the majors, and we're doing everything in our power to block them. Yet we've had other guys who stumbled out the gate, like Corey, and we give them chance after chance after chance...It must suck to be Murton or RonnyC right about now.

If we don't give up Prior, Z or Pie I'd be thrilled to land Tejada.

I agree, but I can't see it happening. I wouldn't mind giving up Pie for Tejada if we kept Prior and Z though. They're going to want one of those guys, for sure.

Why? If Ronnyc isn't headed to Baltimore he's going to your starting second baseman most likely if Walker gets dealt or not. It would suck for RonnyC to watch Perez getting starts over him not one of the best shortstops in the majors if not the best in Miggy.

I'm cool with Floyd. I half expected Murton to be more of a 4th outfielder/platoon anyway, since the chances that Dusty would play both Cedeno and Murton everyday in the same line up isn't all that likely. Given the Furcal situation, Cedeno pretty much defaulted into a starting job, which makes upgrading a corner spot in the outfield a higher priority.

Murton will probably platoon with Jones against lefties, and get some occasional starts in place of Floyd in LF (assuming the Cubs did get Floyd via trade).

I'd be a little happier with this offseason if the Cubs find a way to get Floyd or Huff or the like.

If we land Miggy and Manny gets dealt to the Mets do we still land Floyd?

Pierre

Barrett

Lee

Miggy

Floyd

Ramirez

Jones

Cedeno

I really like the look of that lineup. Jones and Barrett could flip places maybe even Cedeno in the two hole.

That does sound good, but I dont see that happening. I really dont see how the Cubs can get Tejada without giving up Pie, Prior, or Z. And whoever previously said lets wait this out and let the Orioles get desperate, I totally agree with you. By the way, I just can't understand why the Orioles would not take top prospects instead of a Manny Ramirez or Bobby Abreu. They are NOT one player away from competing, they might as well reload and hope to be good in a couple years.

I don't think manny will get traded. going to NY would seem to obliterate all his stated reasons for wanting to get traded too.

Didn't Manny just come out and say that he isn't leaving Boston this year? If he did, count Floyd out. And I'm still praying that Hendry doesn't pull this Prior/ Tejada deal. I'd give anything to keep Mark Prior on the Cubs.

With Manny you have to have the most updated news . Manny claims he never said he was staying in Boston to any ESPN reporters and his agent Manny would still like to be moved.

You said it yourself. Do you really think Baker will play Ronny over Neifi? I highly doubt it.

Yes, I do. What I do think will happen is that Ronnie will play 120-130 games, not 155 games.

What on earth has Dusty Baker done to give you the idea that Cedeno will play over Perez? The facts just dont back up your idea, with Baker here its pretty much a given that Perez(he saved us man!) will be on the field ALOT.

I'm still not sold on "Dusty and Neifi sitting in a tree". I think Dusty knows that Ronny is the best option, and Ronny will get the bulk of the playing time next year barring a major collapse. I think part of the "problem" last year was the fact that Ronny's offense really did come out of nowhere. Like I said, I think Dusty knows that, it's just too darn bad he didn't believe it back then.

I guess all I'm saying is, I'll believe Neifi starts over Ronny when I actually see it.

Honestly, Ronny will start unless he struggles in ST. Or in the first month. Or ever.

this probably deserves it's own thread but since the discussion is on Cedeno did anyone notice in this article from cubs.com that Cedeno apparently played 2nd and SS?

I wonder how many games he's played at 2nd this winter.

Last I checked (which has been awhile), he hadn't played any.

Ronnie's bat did come out of nowhere last year everyone was bashing Hendry for putting him on the 40 man roster because slick fielding shortstops are a dime dozen while not protecting some of the arms.

Two words for those of you who think Cedeno will see more playing time than Neifi:

Enrique Wilson

I figure Perez will be on the field for approximately 155 instances, which is 155 too many. Dusty sucks.

Posted
actually, didn't his bat emerge in 2004? You are correct about the teeth-gnashing on his rostering though.

Not really. Nothing too impressive, anyway. 279/328/401/729

For a SS in a pitcher's league at his age, that's pretty good.
