From everything I had read, it seemed as though Millwood was a target of ours, especially if Prior got traded. With him out of the equation, theres no way Mark leaves.

I thought he would stay in Cleveland, actually.

By my reckoning that's now $589.725m that's been handed out in free agent contracts since the end of the 2004 season to the following nineteen pitchers...

Kevin Millwood, AJ Burnett, Pedro Martinez, Roger Clemens, Matt Clement, Jarrod Washburn, Brad Radke, Jon Lieber, Derek Lowe, Paul Byrd, Esteban Loaiza, Kris Benson, Carl Pavano, Odalis Perez, Matt Morris, Kenny Rogers, Jaret Wright, Eric Milton and Russ Ortiz

Jeff Weaver is licking his lips. And Clemens is probably tempted to try and get himself a five year deal.

Makes it kind of tough to justify trading Prior in this environment, no? Finding someone from outside the organization to fill his spot in the rotation looks to be terribly expensive whether in $$$ or players.

I don't think I could do that deal.

I don't think it would change anything if the Cubs got Bedard in return.

Except for the fact that Prior is a lot better than Bedard, you're right, it wouldn't change a thing.

I thought Hicks was hesitant to hand out long-term deals to pitchers after Chan Ho Park. I have a feeling this signing has disaster written all over it.

Maybe Hicks has finally come to terms with the fact that Chan Ho was never really that good.

Other reports say it is a 5 year/$60M deal! I wanted Milwood, but not that bad.

That deal is terrible. It's bad enough to give an ace contract to a mediocre pitcher once, but twice is downright mad. How can they give this guy that much money for FIVE years??? Millwood is a thief (Texas is equally stupid) and the Rangers are about to find that out.

Note to those who threaten giving up & leaving Cubs Nation: Just do us True Cub Fans a favor & LEAVE ALREADY!!!

You know, first of all, I really don't realistically see the Tejada trade ever happening. That's your typical big trade off season rumor that the Cubs get involved in that never happens. It's tired and happens every year. It's not going to happen.

But, if it did, losing Prior is severe and I think, worthy of Hendry's firiing. I could see Wood.... but not Prior or Zambrano. Send them wood with a nice package of prospects that would make it difficult to turn down.

As far as Millwood goes, the Rangers definately overpaid, but the guy had the best ERA in the American League last year. He's a fine pitcher and I would have loved to see him join the Cubs. It's too bad that teams like the Rangers have to overpay FAs to this extent to get them to come to their city. Detroit is in the same boat. When you run your team so badly for so many years, such a price will later be paid. Rebuilding a franchise is expensive.

An even bigger shame is that other teams will have to overpay because of their ignorance. What will Prior get in arby after bringing up Millwood's contract?

I'm not a Millwood hater..........I actually thought the Cubs should have gone after him as well, but not at that price.

ok, maybe hendry is the 2nd worst gm in the world

he did get wilkerson and sledge for the wildly overrated soriano. so i'd say daniels is having a better offseason than hendry.
