It will be simply unbelievable if this happens. I have a hard time believing the credibility of it all as it stands, but when more detailed rumors keep getting thrown onto the fire, it's hard to ignore them.

I'm taking down the flag on my wall and buying an Orioles hat if this trade happens. Then I'll make it a point to send hand-written hate mail to Jim Hendry every day between now and his much-awaited last with the Cubs. Unfathomable.

I have no words left in my vocabulary suitable for a family site.

Yeah.... and you can still be disowned, boy !!

I understand the disillusionment. I've very angry right now at the prospect of losing Prior. I'd like to think that this is a bad Levine rumor, but somehow I doubt it.

Anyone have any scouting info on Bedard? Does he scout out as a top of the rotation guy?

Phillips on ESPN said that he thinks Bedard is a 1 maybe 2 kind of starter and that he is almost as good as Zambrano....Victor or course.

Come in off the ledge. We can talk about this.

I really don't mind losing Prior as long as it's a good deal. I don't think this deal is that good for the Cubs if these are the players involved.

And if it isn't bad enough, about six months after the Cubs traded their franchise player (Prior), some unnamed SS (Tejada 8-[ ) that plays for the Cubs demands a trade because he wants to play on a team with a commitment to winning.

After Hendry destroys any value Tejada might have ever had after the trade demands, he finds a team to dump the remainder of his contract on. Of course, Hendry had to pay nearly all of Tejada's contract to move him, AND had to add a top prospect for Wilson Alvarez.

If this doesn't make him fit the bill, then I don't know what does.

Yes...when it comes to making the Cubs better he certainly is.

I don't think I like the Prior proposal any more than most of the people here, but I will state the following: to all those talking about defecting to the A's or buying an O's hat etc, don't let the door hit you in the behind on the way out. The Cubs wil be around a lot longer than Prior or any player or Hendry or any GM or Baker or any manager. I thought we were fans of the TEAM. People come and go.

If you make this ridiculous trade, who the hell pitches for the Cubs? You're going to move Prior AND Hill?

Z, Maddux, Williams, Rusch and Bedard, THAT'S the pitching rotation you're going to send out there with your $100MM+ payroll???? With only Guzman left on the farm in case more help is needed????

I've been yelling for Hendry to be fired before he ruins this team, been saying it for nearly a year and a half now. Can I get an amen? Cuz this is the worst, dumbest move on his part yet.

DON'T DO IT.

I always thought it would be a Prior or Hill kind of thing too...not both.

Agreed. I gotta think that Milwood is on JH's radar screen if this deal goes down and (big) if we get some cash back in the deal.

From this morning, levine is cohosting today. the big topic is the "would you trade prior for tejada?"

- said that no player on this team is "untouchable", if it makes sense it makes sense.

Two offers on the table, one is a young package and the other the prior/tejada deal mentioned in another thread.

OFFER A: Guzman, Hill, Patterson, and Dopirak for Tejada. Orioles dont want Cedeno, they will sign like an Alex Gonzalez to fill the SS role.

OFFER B: Prior and Hill for Tejada, Bedard and one of their top OF prospects (didn't hear who as my damn radio cut out right as they mentioned the name.)

While he did say anybody could be traded, he is not sure if he would do it or not.

Offer A works for the Cubs and the Orioles.

Offer B works for the Cubs but doesn't make sense for the Orioles.

I doubt Hendry is going to trade Prior unless he gets something like Offer B in return. I predict that if the Orioles don't want a deal along the lines of either Offer A or B, then he'll sit tight until a better deal comes along during the season.

If offer A worked for the Cubs and Orioles, I imagine the deal would be done. To me it makes much more sense for Baltimore too. They aren't going anywhere this year with or without Prior and with or without Tejada.

I also think that Cedeno has to be part of the deal unless they are stupid enough to want Perez.

Assuming the Orioles have a rational owner.

It's getting harder and harder to root for the TEAM when Hendry and Baker seem content to make is suck more and more.

Per Bruce Levine the offer seems to have been narrowed to Prior, Hill and Patterson for Bedard and Tejada, pending Angelos's approval.

And let me say:

:wall:

Actually not a bad trade IF Guzman is truly over his injury problems. We get to keep Cedeno and Pie as well. If Guzman is not healthy, the deal ain't so great.

I do mind losing Prior. I don't like trading pitching except where absolutely necessary. Now, I will trade anyone to make "my team" better. I just don't see how this makes the Cubs better. It seems like a stupid, short-sighted deal the likes of which we've never seen. Or perhaps we've seen it, only so long ago many have forgotten it.

This is one of those deals that just needs not to occur. If we're going to have to trade one of our most valuable players -- a Cy Young caliber pitcher -- for an admittedly excellent SS, then I'm not interested. Additionally, this seems another example of Hendry selling low. Prior's "injury-prone" in the minds of many around baseball -- so why trade him when his value is low?

I have a word for that: stupid.

I sincerely hope that this is all smoke and no fire, because if there is fire, I think the maelstrom will quickly burn out of control.

Whether Guzman is healthy or not doesn't change the fact that we get absolutely fleeced. Hill and Bedard really aren't that different, Prior has a word I can't think of more value than Tejada, and we're throwing in Patterson. It's highway robbery.

This whole thing just wouldn't make sense. Hendry has preached "catching the ball" and pitching depth this whole offseason. Why would he then turn around and trade Prior and Hill for Tejada? Tejada is not an improvement defensively over Neifi nor Cedeno and you've pretty much blown up your rotation.

I still don't believe it.

Then the NSA needs to tap his phones and share his conversations with Prior-loving Cub fans everywhere. We need to know whether or not Hendry is a baseball terrorist. We need to know.

I'm hoping that Hendry was really just over hyping Hill and this is the reason why! :sunny:

Hill and Bedard are similar in that both sides don't know if both, either, or neither will reach their potential.

If we can get Byrnes or Craig Wilson to platoon with JJ, then we'll be set.

It's like having feelings for a girl in high school who finds a new crowd to hang with. She was great to you before, and now her new friends have got her treating you like crap, cheating on you, spitting in your beer, and pushing your mom down the stairs. It doesn't matter how strong your feelings for her are or what kind of past the two of you have together, you're better off keeping your distance until her friends quit trying to trade Mark Freaking Prior.

Anytime you trade a quality player like Prior it's normal to be upset or not like the trade. I agree about selling low but the idea to get the best pitching prospect back in the trade...as long as he really is quality, is a good idea IMO.

The pessimist in me sees Tejada now being a 25/80/260 type hitter for the Cubs. I still want a full plaid guarentee from the O's that Tejada has never used steroids.
