truthfully, I would trade prior. Would I trade him for Tajeda? Probably not. There are too many "concerns" (age/medications of choice) for me. I could just see him having a down year next year.

Now, if we could somehow end up with Manny in all this I'd be more interested.

If Hendry is even considering this he should be fired immediately. Prior has had a few injuries in a couple of years, but they stem from a few freak incidents. In no realm of possibility would I consider trading him for a player other than Pujols or Cabrera. If Hendry pulls the trigger on this deal I will not spend a dollar on a Cubs ticket until he is fired. I don't care what it brings to the team this year. Prior is the future of this organization along with Zambrano.

Bruce please tell me that this isn't even remotely close to being considered.

Are all Priors injuries due to freak incidents? I'm no expert but I recall he had hamstring and elbow (?) issues?

Actually I believe it was his Achilles, not hamstring.

He had a hamstring problem in '02, which allowed the Cubs to sit him as he was nearing the IP totals that the Cubs likely marked for him at the start of the year.

Who knows what went on with the achilles/elbow, he hurts it at the end of '03, pitches thru it in the playoffs, reports have have tweaking his mechanics during the off-season and hitting 99 on the gun and then his misses the start of the year b/c of heel/elbow problems.

I bet at the O's boards they are like:

Tejada/Bedard for Prior!?!?!?! No way do I do that deal! Prior can't even stay healthy! I bet he was on the juice before and that's why he's breaking down! The only way I'd trade Tejada and Bedard is for a guy like Cabrera AND a few can't miss top prospects!

Exactly. They want more than Prior. It's comical.

I have no problem with the Cubs trading Prior if it makes the team better. What worries me is that I no longer trust Hendry to do so.

I agree Cuse, and at the risk of going against the "groupthink" that people erroneously assert goes on here, I think Bedard + Tejada for Prior + top prospect is a fair trade.

Now, I don't know if I would do the trade, but I would think hard about it. The Cubs need to shake things up. Hendry cannot think that this team is a playoff contender as it stands right now. The time to win for the Cubs is now.

If I'm Hendry I talk to my people and ask if Prior can get back his pin point control. I also ask about Tejada's age and try to get stats for comparable players his age to try to project towards the future. There is a lot to think about. But that is why the GM makes the big bucks.

IMO it is nowhere near as bad a trade ideas as people are making it out to be.

I agree. At first glance, its worth mulling over, but I'd need to spend a lot of time with it and think about several factors, including what pitchers are FAs next year, is Guzman ready, etc.

Tejada/Bedard for Prior would be tempting but I wouldn't to do it.

I would not do this deal.

I agree, however Tejada/Bedard for Prior would make the Cubs a lot better in 06.

i fully expect a Cy Young season from prior next year, and if he's traded, that's a lock.

If the deal is Prior for Tej/Bedard, I would be tempted to do this....I have watched him pitch for the O's last season and he is underrated....

i wouldn't trade prior for anything less than cabrera or pujols. and probably not even pujols, unless he's willing to go back to the outfield.

Come on Sulley,

Prior + Pie + Barrett for Santana, Mauer, and Hunter?

You wouldn't do that trade?

DISCLAIMER: I am only making this up for the purposes of discussion.

I do as well because he's healthy. A healthy Mark Prior > nearly all other pitchers.

Cub luck.

After sleeping on this trade proposal, I still think it's an absolutely terrible idea. Even if it's Prior for Tejada, Bedard, Loewen, and Markakis I can't say I'd be thrilled.

The Cubs don't need to shortchange their future to bring in an overrated shortstop like Tejada. I don't care what the stats say, but he's not worth the price he's commanding.

At this point, I'm hoping Kenny Williams sneaks in and steals Tejada away from the Cubs. That'd be one deal I would be thankful for him sticking his nose into.

Hyperbole I'll even use young pitchers...

Dontrelle Willis

Jake Peavy

Roy Oswalt

Johan Santana

A.J. Burnett

Carlos Zambrano

Josh Beckett

Any of those guys are pretty much equal. Santana is the best pitcher in baseball hands down.

I actually agree, I wouldn't do the deal. The real key depends on how you'd fell about Bedard. That said this deal would make the Cubs better in 06 but the cost is too great.

I find it hard to believe Hendry would be adamant in not trading Prior or Z for Abreu earlier this month, then just a few short weeks later be so open to trading Prior for Tejada.

Something doesn't add up and personally I believe this is pure media speculation that has this board all nervous and upset.

I find the whole idea hard to believe, but Abreu has nothing to do with it.

Tejada is a more valuable property than Abreu.
