It's equally as laughable to just say...when he's been bad....it because of injuries. He was healthy for a lot of last year....and had some very rough outings.

Oh my lord. A lot of great healthy pitchers have some very rough outings every year. The unbelieve Roger Clemens had multiple bad games. THe incomparable Pedro Martinez had several multi hit, multi walk, multi run bad games. Johan Santana had quite a few 4, 5, 6 run allowed games.

Miguel Tejada has down times as well. He sucked in August, September and October last year.

But none of that matters.

I am listening. Prior has been inconsistent and has not been a superstar up to this point. Thats the thrust of my "logic".......

maybe he's had injury problems, not all of them his fault, but he's hardly been inconsistent.

that's a laugh.

Your convinced Prior will be the Prior of 03 in the years to come....I'm not as sure as you are. One of us will be wrong. We shall see.

prior last year:

.227/.296/.394/.688

1.21 whip, 3.67 era, 188 SO in 167.2 innings.

that was a "down" year. forget the fact that prior has just turned 25 years old for crying out loud.

I like Prior as well as the next guy and am not a big proponent of trading him, but... I don't think the concern about him should be injury related. I think there should be worry about his tendency to throw a ton of pitches early in a game. He did if a lot last year, where he'd be at 100 pitches in the 5th. He seems to nibble around at times. He averaged about 6 1/3 per start last year and about 5 2/3 in 2004. Zambrano averaged over 6 2/3 each of those years.

Prior's great while he's in there; I just wish he was around more, later in games.

He's 25 years old. He's still learning to be better and better. You can't expect him to be perfect now. And unlike guys like Peavy or Willis, he doesn't have the benefit of cavernous ballparks to hold his mistakes.

Just so I understand: is your comment on the cavernous ballparks a way of explaining why he nibbles at times?

Every pitcher nibbles at times. Part of the reason he might nibble could be because often times he's pitching in a park that is quite easy to hit homeruns in, whether that's Wrigley with the wind blowing out or any of the other NL Central parks. That's not to excuse nibbling, it's to understand it. Odds are he'll get better and better at putting guys away and won't have to nibble as much.

With an 11-7 record. Im not trying to argue he isn't great...or doesnt have tremendous "upside"....of course he does.....but there are some questions...and the trade is worth looking at. It's risky.....but huge reward moves in life are always risky. Thats just the way it is.

If this trade does go down who do you expect to hold down the other opponents from scoring runs? Z, Wood, and Maddux? I will give you Z but Wood is a HUGE ? mark and Maddux is one year older and if history is any indicator of past performance Maddux will likely regress even more than last year. Our starting rotation would take a HUGE hit. I like Tejada and all but in my eyes he is not worth a Prior. He is also 30 and when you hit the 30 mark sometimes you start to lose your skill.

Has anyone gone to OriolesHangout.com and checked out their opinions on this trade? Almost EVERY poster is against the trade as well.

I think there should be a rule that MLB.com puts up a poll for every trade made, and if 80% of of fans on BOTH sides hate the trade, it has to be recinded.

Anyways, hopefully the Cubs can get Prior back after he's washed up like Maddux.

The bottom line is if you want quality, you have to give up quality, I don't want to trade Prior, but depending on what other players are involved it might be good for the Cubs. All of us got spoiled by listening to all of those rumors that said we would get an All-Star for our spare parts and prospects. Most GMs aren't going to give up Abreu, Tejada, Dunn, or Manny for a #4 starter and 2 prospects. I'm sure that JH could get Abreu or Dunn if he offered Prior, but he doesn't want Prior in the NL facing the Cubs.

We seem to be going round and round here.

Ok Would anyone else do this trade:

Hill, Guzman, Dope, Harvey/Reed for Tejada?

In a heartbeat.

I'm not sure anymore. I'd agree to anything to end this "trade Prior" discussion. I understand that physical torture has the same effect on people.

Reed, yes. Harvey, probably.

Why can't I remember who Reed is....what's his first name?

That's right...thanks CPatt!

What package would you put together to get Tejada?

Does anyone else feel like we're arguing ourselves in circles? Yada, yada, yada don't want to trade Prior. Prospects are fine. What's Hendry thinking?

We could have just signed Furcal or Tejada before...

This needs to be resolved. Soon. For the love of God.

Now there's a Boston Globe wire report (according to WSCR) that has a 4 way deal with the Cubs and White Sox, Red Sox and O's.

Supposedly we'd get Tejada and Garland.

Ugghh. Lose Prior for one hit wonder Garland who was once a Cub? Man, this is just getting worse and worse.

Interesting. See, that goes to show you that the Cubs can get Prior later in his career if they want too!

Why do I see Manny going to the White Sox.
