Absolute pure genius. I literally have been discussing this very thing with some friends today.

At this point, I would be ecstatic if Hendry does nothing, as long as we keep Prior.

I'm starting to feel the same way. Hendry is starting to scare me.

I just wish the nightmare that is this offseason would be over with.

In late october I had dreams of Brian Giles OBP in front of lee and ramirez, Furcal's glove and cannon at short, Todd Walker's low cost high value contract at 2nd. A few months later and I'm praying that somebody kick the cell phone out of Hendry's hand. It just keeps getting worse...all I want to do is have a shred of hope going into the season. I've been trying so hard to stay positive

Eyre and Howry sign, decent arms but overpriced...whatever they can contribute.

Neifi reups...*puke*, but if we snag furcal and Ronnie/Walker outperform him, maybe dusty won't have a choice.

No Giles...ouch, ah well Milton Bradley might be a decent alternative.

No Furcal...I was positive, at least hendry didn't break the bank.

Pierre...We gave WHAT for Pierre? Well it's possible that he'll bounce back.

No Bradley...wtf Jim, who's gonna play right.

Jaque Jones....Jaque Effing Jones? This is our right fielder? I even tried to stay positive with Jones...I watched some footage of him on MLB.com. Made some good plays, has a good stroke when he connects, plays with a lot of energy.

Now this...You're threatening to take Captain Calves away from us. There are two things that would break my spirit as a Cub fan. Take Z away from me, Take Prior away. They are really the two bright spots of this organization. Hell, trade Lee before you trade Prior.

It's like Hendry has been trying harder and harder to ruin my winter. Every step of the way, "What, you're still not mad? You still have a shred of optimism? You still have a shred of faith in me? Take this!"

Well I give up, Jim. You win. You are a terrible GM and I apologize for being proud of some of your moves pre 2004. Please, call off the dogs, NO MAS! Do not trade Prior, I give.

I bet he knows how crappy of an off-season he's had, so if scares the living bejesuses out of cubs fans and then we end up with good old #22, there will be a mass exhale of relief, and people will forget about the crappy job he did, and just be happy we still have our future cy young award winner.

Imagine the silliness of valuing a pitcher just entering his prime, one who has pitched 213+ innings five years in a row and posted ERAs of 3.86 or lower in four of them over a guy who has never pitched a full season.

So you're giving all the positives of Zito and then describing Prior only as a guy who hasn't pitched a full season. I don't get the point. Are we talking about some third rate middle relief prospect coming of back to back tommy john surgeries? Are we talking about a 20 year old starting pitcher?

Zito- full package

Prior- full package

The majority of baseball would value Prior higher.

Yeah, but how many wins does he have?

Not you too.

CubbieRich?

Please tell me my sarcasm meter is busted.

I'm pretty sure that it is.

If Prior is planning on leaving in a year or so, I dont' mind seeing what Hendry can get for him. At this point Hendry has to do something to improve the offense and if I had to choose between Prior and Zambrano long-term, I'm picking Zambrano any day of the week. A deal for Tejeda gives the Cubs another big bat in the lineup with Ramirez and Lee and helps make up for their pathetic outfield situation.

Has anyone posted a scouting report on Bedard? I read the one on ESPN.com and he sounded similar to Rich Hill, without the big curve.

This is really the FIRST I've heard of Prior leaving after this year? Where is this all coming from? Is there substance to the rumor that he wants out.

I guess I could see it, his best friend on the team will most probably be gone, so less motivation for him to stay + a buffoon for a manager and general manager, and a club with no direction.

What am I going to do with BOTH my Prior and Wood jersey after this year if this is true?

We could add my Sosa and Nomar jerseys and have a garage sale!

Prior can't go anywhere for 3 years unless we send him somewhere. And the only thing stating this was JeffH's source, who he himself said to take with a grain of salt.

There has to be something else behind Hendry's willingness to trade Prior. Sure he has made some really dumb moves this offseason, like signing Neifi and Rusch to multiyear deals, and getting stuck with Jacque Jones, but why would he trade one of the best young pitchers in the game without some other reason?

Has Bruce M. chimed in on the topic yet? I tried to read through both threads but there is alot to sift through.

No, there is no real substance. Someone on this message board said that an unnamed source they know told them that Prior is sick of the organization and wants to leave. No names or explanations given, just the assertion and the unnamed source.

Bruce usually only chimes in when he has a new article out. Personally, I think he should hang out here at least 5 hours a day.

Only five hours? I wonder how much he would charge to just hang out here all day and give us information on demand...

Sorry to hijack the thread:

But ESPNnews (breaking news box at the lower right corner of your tv) is saying: Report: the Cubs WOULD trade Mark Prior.

So, apparently, Prior is AVAILABLE, and a Prior for Tejada/Bedard deal maybe closer to happening then previously thought.

But take it with a grain of salt.

You know, you're REALLY not making my evening any better. If I wake up tommorrow and this deal is done, I'm going to break something with a baseball bat.

Is that all they said? I doubt that they are basing it on anything more than the rumors we have heard. ESPN is not known for getting the scoop.

I really don't want to see Prior dealt, but if he is I'd like to see Markakis somehow involved.

This is not good news.

The Orioles are pissing me off again. They pissed me off last year about the trade for sosa and now they are at it again. Prior and Tejada should never be mentioned in the same sentence when proposing a trade. Now that Chuck Lamar is gone Angelos thinks its his duty to become the donkey GM of the league. Screw these birds, let them rot in 4th place in the AL east. They want to much in this deal. Kiss my ass.

Is he really asking for "too much" if the other GM is willing to give it?

Maybe part of the Bobby Hill for Simon/Lofton/Ramirez deal was that Hendry had to promise to follow it up with a couple years of being an exponentially bigger dumbass and make everyone forget about how stupid previous deal was.

Trade Mark Prior for...

entire 2005 AL ASG roster? hmm, maybe - I'd be willing to discuss it over lunch.

any 12 people the Orioles have to offer? no freaking way.

We WOULD trade Mark Prior, and yet we re-sign Neif Perez.

Nice to know where this teams priorities lie.

Neifi catches the ball. Mark only gets in the ball's way.

I understand your frustration. However, I don't think that is a fair analogy...
