Levine was just on and said the Cubs have been talking to the O's about Tejada the entire time and look to be front runners for him if they decide to trade him. Also said Walker and CPatt are more than likely gone. I missed some of the other stuff.

Please, please stay away from the wildly overrated Kevin Millwood.

Please.

Get Aubrey Huff (assuming he wasn't on steroids prior to last season).

Move Jones to LF to platoon with Murton, where his defense will be a real plus.

Don't trade Todd Walker.

I don't understand why JH wants to dump Walker so badly.....if we landed Tejada, then I understand. Aside from that happening, what is his reasoning?

Beats me. That would probably be the best offensive MI in all of baseball. Sure, Walker is below average defensively, but it's not like he's some 75 year old grandma.

even hendry wouldn't pay someone 5 mil a year for 3 years to platoon. if he wanted to platoon murton with that type of left handed outfielder he would have done it with patterson

not much out there to help. millwood may be overrated but he would also help. if wood falters he's our 3, if he comes through he's our four. might be expensive but less expensive than paying kerry wood 12mil to win 4 games or be a set up man. this team is once agins based completely on pitching. we have helped the d, which should help the pitching but if we have to have maddux, rusch and williams start 20 times each we are below .500.

we will probably get nothing for patterson. we may get nothing for walker.

i would be pretty shocked if we make any more moves of significance.

For the record, was it 5.33 mil/yr or 3 mil/yr with a 4 mil signing bonus? I thought I read that somewhere last night, but I was trying to muddle through some tears. Anywho, that's a big difference when responding to that last statement of yours..

$4 signing bonus, paid over three seasons (unclear if it's paid in equal increments).

Salaries of $3, $4, and $5 over the next three seasons.

I'd still like to see the Cubs get Huff.

Do you agree with me that it shouldn't take anymore than say Koronka and Wellemeyer to land Huff?

Tampa just signed Travis Lee, they have Crawford, Baldelli, Gomes, Young and Gathright.

Huff will be making 7.5m coming off a bad year.

There is no way I offer Hill, Williams or Guzman for him.

Bet they don't get Tejada. The Cubs rarely trade for or pickup stars. Hendry has yet to get one. If Mark Prior 2003 doesn't return and if Wood's hurt again, Hendry should be ready for his pink slip by September.

jones is 16 mil for 3 years to play not platoon. no matter what we pay him per year actually he will average getting 5.33. this isn't football where we can cut him after a season and not pat him. he is here to start in right or left. he may get some time off against lefties but not a platoon.

if we get huff, which we could but probably won't, murton would be the odd man out. with no opening in the outfield for 3 years (except center-possibly) i would think we should deal patterson and murton.

i would be happier with a murton, pierre, huff outfield..actually very happy. but after getting jones i would still like to see jones, pierre and huff even if it costs us murton. i just have serious questions about murton, pierre, jones as an outfield on a contender. just too much pressure on pitchers and dlee to come through.

Even if we get Tejada, I fear that it wont be enough to overcome our terrible terrible outfield, that and the fact that neifi would probably be starting at second.

Excuse me while I go cry.

There will probably be other teams interested in him, so I imagine that it will take more than TW & JK.

Is Young going to start the year with TB? He's had just a little time in AAA, where he didn't overwhelm. I doubt that TB has much financial incentive to move Huff right now. Who on that club makes any money? Baez, Huff, Lugo. Lee, Hall, Fossum will make a little. Who else?

If TB doesn't get a decent offer for Huff, maybe they keep him until July.

As far as trading Guzman is concerned, I'd rather not, but I could see the argument in doing so. He's got one year left in the minors before he has to make the 25-man roster for good, and he's never pitched above AA.

Unless Huff has a terrible year next year, you'll be able to offer him arbitration with no fear that he'll accept (assuming you don't want to keep him). When he leaves for a multi-year deal with someone, you can sit back and take the one - or possibly two - draft choices. That would somewhat alleviate losing Guzman.

Now that we have Jones, I'd feel a lot better if we got Huff and moved Murton. I'd love to get Tejada, but I see that being more difficult due to who Baltimore would want.

I'd like to keep Walker too. Walker, Jones, and Huff as your lefthanded batters sound good to me.

You have to platoon him because he's basically Bad Corey Patterson when he faces lefties. If you play him only against RHP's (70% of the year) then you can use a platoon to face lefties such as Byrnes 30% of the time to match his performance at .850+ OPS. To sign Byrnes for ~$1.5 to combine him with Jacque Jones $5 Million /yr. deal is the right thing to do, now that Jones is here. $7 million for that kind of production (offensively & defensively) out of your RF would be more than adequate.

I think he got himself a pair of Dusty Dice.

Anyone want to make a pair of Hendry dice?

Hendry traded for Lee, Ramirez and Nomar.

Granted, the other moves he's made have mostly been sheer idiocy, but he has brought in the big names.

But he won't here. He's gotta be on drugs or something for as bad as he's been lately.

Waaaa? What in earth would give you that impression? One of my pet peeves this offseason has people throwing out ridiculously low-ball trade scenarios and then calling Hendry an idiot for not making that deal. If Huff is traded for anything equivalent to Koronka (a mediocre to bad lefty) and Wellemeyer (an inconsistant righty bullpen arm with a bit of upside) I'll eat my shoe.

With Tejada the offense gets a little better. It's still not a top one. You still have to rely on Pierre to get back to his pre-05 numbers. Murton and Cedeno have to play first of all, and secondly have to perform to the high end of expectations. Oh yeah, you still can't afford any injuries and Ramirez, Lee, and Barrett have to maintain their 05 numbers.

None of them were stars @ the time though. Yes, Lee & ARam later became stars, but @ the time ARam was a guy w/ lots of potential but some question marks. Lee was putting up nice numbers, but nothing spectacular. Nomar was hurt too much to still be considered a star.

Hendry's best attribute is making moves for 2nd & 3rd tier guys, who turn out to be better than expected. (See Lee, Barrett and ARam).
