It is being reported that the Cubs are willing to offer Jones a 3 year deal now which earlier was reported they weren't interested in. It's on ESPN Rumor Central. Apparently the list is shrinking very fast, and we are now looking at Huff and Jones much more closely. Deals for Wilkerson, Gibbons, and Ibanez were attempted but didn't happen. Looks less and less appealing to me.

Isn't that the news you all wanted to hear. We've been trying to stay patient, but in the end you had to know this is how it was going to end. Damn I hope he works something out for Huff cause at least that is just one year. If he regains previous form it could be a good deal, if not at least it isn't Jones.

So can someone give me the major knock on Jones?

His stats don't look TERRIBLE, but its better then many options that we have left.

I'd rather roll the dice with Patterson than give him three years. In fact, I'd rather rush Pie to the big show before either option. He's got the RF arm.

Jacque Jones sucks. It's as simple as that.

this sums it up.

if we sign jacque jones, i'm going to be furious.

Jacque Jones

Cub life?

Dec 16 - The Cubs are not opposed to offering free agent Jacque Jones a three-year contract, despite recent published suggestions to the contrary, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports. According to sources who have spoken with the Cubs, their list of desirable, left-handed-hitting outfield bats has shrunk so dramatically, they now appear willing to add a third year to their offer if that's what it takes to sign Jones.

The Cubs also are now re-thinking Aubrey Huff, whose defensive questions had previously placed him lower on their shopping list. They have struck out in attempts to deal for Brad Wilkerson, Seattle's Raul Ibanez and Baltimore's Jay Gibbons.

So, does this make Pie expendable? Maybe/maybe not. He's only 20 so he could wait if Pierre is signed longterm. Of course, the Cubs could sign JJ and trade him after a year. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

I agree with some of these other posts.....Id much rather see Pie rushed to the majors or Patterson in RF than offer Jock Strap a 3 year deal. I'm crossing my fingers we dont get that turd. Edited by nolanwood

I don't understand why Aubrey Huff's defense is a deal-killer, but Raul Ibanez's isn't.

I think Huff's best position is DH. lol, especially if his offense doesn't rebound from last year's slump.

The part I bolded is exactly what is wrong with Jim Hendry and the Cubs.

Why does the person have to be left handed?

Hendry spent most of the off-season looking for a leadoff batter? What position does a leadoff batter play?

ahhhhhh!
