Ronny Cedeno hit his first homer yesterday for Aragua of the VWL.

Cedeno is sixth in the league with a .353 average in 116 at-bats. Dec. 11 - 3:00 pm et

This is definitely a positive, but it needs to be pointed out that the Venezuelan Winter League is typically between AA and AAA in talent level.

They don't have "the book" out on him yet.

And what does a .353 AVG convert to in the majors? If it's .280 plus, I'd take that from our #8 hitter.

Any news on whether he's playing any 2nd base?

Is anyone else concerned about Burnout with him? He has been playing a lot of baseball recently.

I think they want to get his body ready for the rigors of a full ML season. The minors aren't nearly as grueling. He'll still get some time to rejuvenate himself at the end of the VWL so he's strong for Spring Training.

He got a lot of time to rest when he was with the Cubs.

I've posted before that I think Cedeno will match Furcal's production within 2-3 years. I think he has the makings of an all-star SS (or 2B) within 2-3 years.

I'm not sure if he'll be at Furcals level or an All-Star, mostly because he won't have much power, but we have him cheap for a while, so he will be very cost-valuable.

He did miss most of September with the injury and was sitting on the bench a bit when he was in the big leagues.

i can see him hitting 10-15 hr's a year. if he hits .280 + and plays a gg ss

along with stealing around 20 bases, he'll be better than any ss the cubs have had since banks.

Even if Cedeno hits 353 in the spring it'll be against inferior competition and he won't start.

Cedeno starts off hitting 353 in April and it's because pitchers have no book on him.

Cedeno starts to slump and Baker puts him in and exclaims he knew what he was doing all along as Cedeno goes 3-25 and rides the bench for the rest of the year.

Or Cedeno starts off on the bench because Johnny B has to "pick his spots" and hits .353. And Johnny B takes credit for Cedeno's success and at the same time refuses to play him regularly because of said success in picked spots.

Checkmate for Johnny B. He can never be wrong. The logic is irrefutable. :pukel:
