The smartest thing the Orioles could do is start rebuilding and that means trading away Tejada, Lopez, and Mora. If this happens though I feel awful for Jeff Conine. He just left the rebuilding Marlins to go to the Orioles. With that said I don't think Peter Angelos will allow them to rebuild right now. They have to do everything in their power to be competetive with the Nationals already stealing some of their fans. I am going to reiterate my belief that the Orioles are going to have to get a quality Major Leaguer back in return for Tejada.

I don't know how any could not want Tejada on their team. He is a heck of a ballplayer.

If Angelos is foolish enough to compete with a team in the National league instead of his own division he should sell the team. He should have re-signed Ryan in the first place if he wanted to show the Wash/Balt area he wanted to win.

I believe Angelos is that foolish. Since the Nats got there he has been complaining about them stealing his fans and his revenues. You honestly think he will risk alienating the fans he has by trading away Tejada? Angelos is one of the worst owners in baseball, if not the worst.

How is his competing with the Nationals any different than the Cubs competing with the White Sox? The media around here is saying that the White Sox winning it all has put so much more pressure on the Cubs to go out and buy players and such.

Did anyone else hear the Levine report themselves?

Yeah. He's talking about the Tejada thing right now. Sounds like the Cubs have very serious interest. He also said if the Orioles think about trading Tejada things would go very quickly.

True....Angelos is that foolish. Maybe he'll take a trip to Europe for the Holiday season and the GM can do his job the right way. :rendeer:

For some reason I really think this one will pan out. I would argue we're the perfect fit. They'll need a MLB ready shortstop to replace Miggy. Hello Ronny Cedeno (hate to see you go kid, but that's life). They're dieing for pitching. Hello Jerome Williams and Rich Hill. Another player maybe and we've got a deal (Corey perhaps?).

Land Tejada, and I'll worry a lot less about which retread we get in right field, because that retread would be filling the six hole.

Pierre

Walker

Lee

Tejada

Ramirez

Jones/Encarncion/whoever

Murton

Barrett

Lethal. Freaking lethal.

Personally I think it's foolish to compete with things like that. If you do your job correctly things will take care of themselves.

So if the O's GM is smart, he'll start by asking for Prior, Z or ARam. Hendry will say no, so then the O's GM has to look at Leo Mazzone as his PC, and think that it would be smart to build around pitching first. So we can offer Hill, Williams, a reliever, and a position player prospect (probably Cedeno). Would that be enough?

This is a scenario that having Pinto or Nolasco could really help.

The media are the only people using that White Sox/Cubs stuff. I doubt Hendry cares. Likewise, Angelos extracted a big chunk of money from MLB when they located the Nats there. I think that was the extent of his concern.

Levine was speculating Hill, Williams, Cedeno, and maybe Patterson would do it. I think that's all he said. He might have said another prospect too. I forget.

I would agree. That is why I have the utmost respect for this Marlins organization. They don't care about the immediate future. They care about the health of the franchise in the long run.

Yes Hendry did overpay for Pierre but at least now he can concentrate on Tejada instead of focusing on a leadoff hitter. I would have rather had Bradley lead off and saved some prospects and then used the pitchers you mentioned in a deal for Miggy.

Wow. if Jim Hendry's listening, pull the trigger in an instant! Getting Tejada without giving up Pie or Hill would be absolutely huge.

If we pick up some salary, that might do it, but I think they'd want Pie. If Pie was the dealbreaker/maker, would you sub him for Corey?

I have a question. Why do some proposed lineups have Tejada between Lee and Ramirez? I wouldnt definately put tejada in the 5 hole behind Ramirez. It's not like he hits lefthanded

This offseason could go from terrible to mediocre (after Pierre) to fantastic very quickly if Hendry pulls this off. And I will jump off the "I Hate Jim Hendry" BandWGN forever if he can do it.

I would sub in Pie in a heartbeat. Since we got Pierre, Pie has become a bit more expendable in my mind. Assuming we then sign Pierre to a 4 year deal we will have 4 more years to draft and develop Pierre's replacement.

Probably already mentioned, but I dont feel like going through the entire thread. As Bruce Miles mentioned in his article, I can't see why Baltimore would trade within the division to Boston. Even if the trade was for Manny Ramirez, I can't understand why Manny would wave his no trade clause to go to a place like Baltimore. So I think if Tejada is really serious about wanting a trade, and Baltimore is willing to trade him, I would think we have as good a shot as any, assuming Hendry does have the cajones to pull this one off.

The Tejada rumblings take me back to the beginning of this offseason, when the Cubs should have offered Nomar a 1 year deal, incentive based deal.

How good would an Aramis Ramirez, Rich Hill, Ronnie Cedeno, Corey Patterson deal look if we could have netted Miggy and Mora?

Pierre, Mora, Lee, Tejada, Nomar, Walker, Barrett, Murton.

Oh my!

ARam is better than Nomar and Mora combined.

If it's true that Ramirez has been working on his stretching exercises that would be wonderful....and not the Bonds type of stretching.

the beauty is it wouldnt matter too much. maybe tejadas speed would be better in front of aramis than the other way around. if lee hits and gets on base like last year, best to keep him at #3. their probably isnt a wrong way to do it.
