It is very strange... It's like, you wouldn't think he has much... But then Hendry makes offers that involve Patterson for Kevin Mench? I mean, yeah, he may just be trying to fleece the Rangers... but personally, I think that Patterson blows and would have Ryan Leaf-esque trade value.

Corey, IMO, was an above average player in '03 and '04 when factoring in his CF defense. I have no clue what happened to him last year to make him fall off a cliff, but those '03 and '04 seasons still happened, and you still have to factor them in when considering his value.

The Cubs will non-tender him

Very little chance of that, IMO. If I'm wrong, I'll come back on here and face the music.

I've given him a lot of crap, but I don't think there's any question he can improve upon last year.

I say we give him another chance in RF, especially because his D is pretty strong and because I do not want to see Jockstrap there.

I agree ... I would rather see him there than some of these scrubs that have been mentioned.

In 03 he only played a half season. Come on, while Corey has the skills he hasn't put it together he's a career .250 hitter with and OBP under .300. Even in 03 his OBP was only .329 a mere .030 higher than his average. He has no plate discipline, no patience, and is too stubborn to try something different. His defense is good but to say he was above average in 03 and 04 is almost laughable. If he were some other teams prospect we would have all labeled him a bust a long time ago.

As much as a bust Corey has been for us last year giving him away for peanuts might not be the best thing to do. I think at the very least have him for a 4th OF or pinch runner role would be good. Yes, it's a demotion and all but better than giving him away for a bag of chips.

So...finishing above the pack in '03 and middle of the pack in '04 in OPS at the position makes him *not* average to above average in those years? I'm trying to figure this out.

When you take those numbers and move him to right field which is being suggested I dont' think he is average (Plus he only played a half year in 03). As far as making him a 4th outfielder I think they will be overpaying for him for what he is going to be making and as a pinch hitter off the bench I would prefer someone who can make contact.

Yeah, I have a tough time seeing the organization outright giving up on him, but who knows.

Indeed, I never would've guessed my Buccaneers allegiance would've saved me here.

So, when (if) Patterson is gone, are you changing your screen name?

You could change it to promote your love for the Buccaneers, say something like "My Buccaneers are on the sides of my Buccanhead".

I guess that might be too long.

Probably, I've thought about changing it before, so that may signal time for a change.

I never said Corey would be an above average RF. The fact that he only played half a season in '03 doesn't mean he wasn't well above average for that year. The fact that we have another CF on the roster doesn't mean Corey wasn't above average in '04.
