This also might tell you how Walkers teammates feel about him.

Or how soft this team may have become.

Say what you will about Dusty's teams but they are never soft.

You didn't notice the 2004 and 2005 teams? They folded like a soft blanket.

I meant in a "sticking a ball in a guys ear" sort of way.

That's just stupid, not tough. This team isn't tough. That '03 team had some toughness. But this team has been weak minded (they let the announcers affect them, and collapsed repeatedly against bad teams) for 2 years. To say Dusty's teams are never soft is as silly as saying Dusty plays deep into every October, or Dusty's teams never win.

Maybe so, when he said the team was soft I thought it was just in regards to willingness to throw at a guy.

The only one who threw any purpose pitches recently was Zambrano and he was in the wrong when doing so.

Look at how they how many times when a Cards pitcher went to bunt that they knocked him down, it's the reason why Haren hit Clement.

This team needs to knock some people down or hit them in the rear. But, they didn't assert themselves.

A team that wasn't soft would've knocked down Lee the next AB.

It's too bad Wood's future is so murky. The Houston Astros, in need of pitching and always in the market for homegrown stars such as Wood, are listening to offers for center fielder Willy Taveras, the runner-up in National League Rookie of the Year voting. With the Astros showing more trust in Chris Burke during the postseason, Taveras has become a hot name on the trade market.

Taveras, with his speed and bunting ability, would be the perfect fit to bat behind Pierre. He would immediately become the best outfielder on the roster. But the Astros aren't going to give him away -- especially to an NL Central rival.

how does this guy have a job to write about sports? the cubs would have the worst OF in baseball w/ pierre, murton and taveras.

I disagree with getting Tavares but I wouldn't be adverse to getting a speedy SS or 2B'man to bat second in the lineup (provided Walker is traded). We need a power bat (hopefully with a good arm) in RF.

How did Moises Alou follow up his soft 2003 season? He kicked a ball into the ivy and when you could still see the ball, he attempted to bury it by tearing down more ivy to hide the ball, which to me takes more effort than reaching down to pick up the ball and throw it back in. Inside the park homer :facesjump:

That's what I want to see my 8m LF doing. Way to teach 'em, Dusty!

Whaddya mean this team was soft? :D

Even though I don't think Lee did it on purpose, I still would have knocked him down.

Hah, remember Dusty's first series against the Giants as the Cubs manager? They hit Bonds like 5 times. That was freaking sweet!

Bonds charging Prior was in my picture slideshow screen saver for quite some time after that. Hilarious.

Or like say Dusty's teams always have good fundamentals.

My avatar is the epitome of the farthest end of the spectrum from being soft.....

and my desktop background is graced with a nice little picture of him with Ventura in a choke hold and his right fist clinched and headed to Ventura's face. :)

...ya' gotta respect anybody who beats the tar outta a white sox player!

A team upset about at how the broadcasters talk about them during the game is the definition of soft.

This team doesn't have the same approach as they did when they kicked around the Cards in the 5 game series of Sept. of '03.

It wasn't the team it was a few players.

Agreed. If anything thay are overtly emotional and will go after the other teams players, a la Oswalt-Barrett and Dusty v. Tony in 03'.

Barrett didn't handle it well but let's not forget that Oswalt hit Barrett first because he didn't like the way the Cubs were hitting bombs off of him in Houston.

Also, in 03, Dusty had Tony's number.

As I recall, Kerry led the league in hitting batters. I miss Kerry (I hope he's going to be healthy most of the year). He's still my favorite pitcher.

It was about 3 too many with Walker, Mercker, and Alou. Then, factor Dusty into the equation and there's enough there.

it's very disappointing that people with sportswriting jobs, people who are paid to do research and report after reflection and investigation often have no idea what they're talking about.

do people just not get it? do they just ignore statistics like OBP, SLG, and OPS? come on!

This is my favorite quote from this inane article:

What we learned from the Pierre trade is the Cubs' cupboard is bare after the exit of pitching prospect Sergio Mitre.

That's what we learned?
