I remember a thread like this from way back and it was pretty entertaining.

The idea make up a team using players with the last name starting with one letter (or you can combine U,V,Y,Z).

Here goes my "R" team.

2B- Brian Roberts

CF- Dave Roberts

SS- Alex Rodriguez

LF- Manny Ramirez

3B/1B- Aramis Ramirez

1B/3B- Scott Rolen

C- Ivan Rodriguez

RF- Aaron Rowand/ Jeremy Reed platoon

defensive Rolen is far superior to Aramis at 3B, but I think Rolen could make the switch better to 1B. Either way they both hit well.

Bench:

C- Mike Redmond

SS/2B- Edgar Renteria

3B- Joe Randa

SS/2B- Jimmy Rollins(maybe I'd convert him or Renteria to OF)

SS/2B- Jose Reyes(how does OF Sound?)

Plus whichever of Rowand/Reed isn't starting

Maybe Rent or Randa could add 1B to the resume.

And if I didn't have enough MIF already, Hanley Ramirez is patiently waiting in the minors

Now to the ugly part: Pitching

SP- Mark Redman

SP- Horacio Ramirez

SP- Glendon Rusch

SP- Nate Robertson

SP- Wandy Rodriguez

CL- Mariano Rivera

SU- Francisco Rodriguez

SU- BJ Ryan(LOOGY)

BP- Arthur Rhodes

BP- David Riske

BP- Juan Rincon

Actually I just have to hope my starters can keep a lead with my offense for six innings until Ryan/Rodriguez/Rivera take over.

Besides the other solid BP arms I have some others like Remlinger and JC Romero at my disposal.

Beat that offense and BullPen!

My all-C team:

CF B. Clark

2B L. Castillo

RF M. Cabrera

3B E. Chavez

1B S. Casey

SS O. Cabrera

LF Bu. Crosby

C J. Closser

Bench

IF J. Cantu

1B T. Clark

3B J. Crede

OF M. Cuddyer

C R. Chavez

OF C. Crawford

Rotation

C. Carpenter

R. Clemens

B. Colon

J. Contreras

G. Chacin

Bullpen

M. Clement

C. Capuano

K. Calero

J. Crain

Setup - F. Cordero

Closer - C. Cordero

On the Team Because Their Names Are Funny:

Coco Crisp

Stubby Clapp

With this pitching staff, I think the C team could take anybody in a seven game series. Three of the last four Cy Young winners and the best closer in baseball, and that Cabrera-Chavez-Casey middle of the order is no slouch either.

Wow with that roatation you beat my "R" team overall.

I still doubt somebody can beat my lineup and bullpen though(specifically the middle of my batting order). Maybe one or the other separately, but not both with the same team.

This looks like a fun way to waste time. Here's my L team:

Starters=

CF Lofton

SS F. Lopez

1B D. Lee (the reason I chose this letter)

LF C. Lee

RF Lane

3B Lowell

2B Loretta

C J. Lopez

Bench=

1B LaRoche

SS Lugo

C LaRue

OF Lawton

OF Langerhans

Rotation=

Lackey

Cl. Lee

Lieber

Lowe

Loaiza

Pen=

Lidge

Linebrink

Looper

Lowry

Loe

Leicester

I'd be banking on one more decent season from Kenny Lofton, but CF is a weak position for this letter. Also, I could see LaRue or even LoDuca outproducing Javy Lopez, but it's pretty much a wash as far as I can see. I would hope for a return to pre-2005 form in Lowell and Loretta. Rotation's pretty thin, pen's even thinner. Lowry could be the long relief/spot starter.

All in all, a pretty decent team, not amazing.

CF Eric Young

C Russ Young (1931, the ONLY person named Young who played Catcher that I could find, and that was only 16 games).

The "Y" in Young is not considered a vowel, but a consonant. It would only be a vowel if it is used as an "E" sound, such as Tommy.

The Eric Young I remember played 2nd base, unless you're thinking of a different player.

the one on MLB.com was listed as an outfielder... and, while it is the same Eric, he played more games in the OF last year then at 2B
