What does Brownlie have to do with anything?

He works around 87.

b/c mr. pengiune said guzman is more like Brownlie #2 then Willis #2. If you would read the thread rather than making such interesting posts as "ha!" you might understand where that is comming from.

I was using him as a comparison to someone whose MLB career is highly in question due to skills diminishing from arm problems.

Quick scan of the minor league forum shows that BA went to one of Guzman's minor league outings, where he sat 91-93 and topped out at 95. That was on Oct. 21, and I'm too lazy to search for a more recent report.

I hope he gets better and stays healthy. But the problem is he can't stay healthy. He needs to build up the arm strength to put up 200 IP and stay healthy long enough to earn a spot on the big club. It could be a while.

Take Guzman, but make sure you wrap some duct tape around his arm so it doesn't fall off on the way over to Miami. He's damaged goods as far as I'm concerned.

Ditto! He keeps getting hurt. I don't know if this is right deal but I am getting weary of Angel's constant setbacks.

If all this team were missing was a centerfielder and lead off hitter then I might consider the trade. But this team has far too many holes to make a trade like this now.

So you're saying the team shouldn't pull the trigger to fill one of the holes because there are too many holes to fill? Isn't that an infinite loop of indecision?

No, I'm saying this team has too good of a chance to be crappy next year. Therefore I wouldn't give away maybe our most talented pitching prospect for a 1 year rental in the lead off spot. But if we were set in RF and in the infield and we had no other option for lead off, then I might consider this deal.

Get used to these talks because people know we have needs and they are not about to give you a discount for their players that the stupid general manager thinks you need.

Fixed.

If Hendry trades anything other than spare parts for Slappy Porn-stache I will be pissed. I will complain and I will whine.

Just a heads up to everyone.

How will that be different from every other day?

I think I am pretty balllanced. What really erks me though are those witty one word response to my posts that some people make. That and the eye roll emoticon. I can't stand that one.

That is a big problem to be sure but his velocity is still in the high 90's and his breaking balls are still biting.

Ha!

He must have seen him pitch 90's heat in one of his 6 innings pitched in 2005. Or maybe he saw the gun in 2004 when he threw all of 17.2 innings in 2004.

I did see him pitch 3 of those innings in '05, he did hit 94 on the gun, and showed a plus curve and change.

Guzman at one time was our #1 prospect. He was destined to hit Chicago and be the ace of our staff. Then he got hurt. Then he got hurt again. And then again.... you get the idea.

If he can stay healthy (that's even a bigger if than Wood or Nomar), he'd be a front of the rotation starter for nearly any team in the bigs. However, he's getting old for a prospect, and we have bigger chips to deal than him.

He's Kerry Wood made of talcum powder.

I'm hesitant. I don't know if Guzman will every be healthy, but you'd like to have one more season to tell. If he can't make it back 3 years after surgery than it's more than likely not happening.

I'm kind of souring on Pierre. I like him as a one year stop gap if we don't give up too much, but that's about it.

If I were a Cub fan I'd want to do this deal. Pierre is a servicable one year rental. Plus JH could stop with this "lead off hitter is my top priority" nonsense and focus on the Cubs real need - a big bat in RF. Edited by CardsFanInChiTown

No, I just like talking baseball. Sad I know.

We badly need a leadoff hitter and saying Guzman is too high a price to pay for Pierre means another year with KPat. If Hendry gets Pierre, it makes the Patterson deal easier to consumate. I'm not sold on Pie. I think he's Patterson II and another year in the minors will prove that to the Cubs brass. I'd rather go into next offseason, after winning the World Series, trying to re-sign Pierre.

I'd much rather have Bradley or Wilkerson in CF.

The Cubs already have a good leadoff hitter and Hendry is doing everything in his power to trade him.

That guy: Todd Walker

What the Cubs badly need is a difference maker in the outfield and that guy ain't Slappy Piere.

Welcome to the forum!

Pierre is simply not a good ballplayer. He is completely one-dimensional. He's not a good defender. He hits for no power. He doesn't even have a good stolen base ratio. Keep him far away from the Cubs.

Pie is already a better player than Pierre. He is simply an outstanding defender. You will see Pie win a gold glove in the future. Nor is he the second coming of Patterson at the plate. Pie continues to improve at every level in all facets of his game. He will be an impact player in the Bigs, and it would competely foolish of the Cubs to trade him away.
